INTERVIEW Q How is business going, and what is the outlook for 2026?

Things are going very well and we conservatively anticipate a growth more than 25% in our turnover for the coming year. The medical aesthetics and dental markets are both strong and we expect further significant growth in our penetration of the laser material processing sector too. We have some specific new customers, for whom we have built an arm using their innovative optics to deliver the beam in the manner they require, and this is something that is a new enhancement to our product range.

Q What are the biggest challenges you face?

Our biggest challenge is serving a global customer base as a small company. We are already selling our products into USA, Europe and Asia. Managing growth and diversification is a challenge, especially for a small company – but one that we are willing to rise to. Our portfolio spans markets, territories and technologies to serve the needs of laser users – and this is where AILU’s network of diverse members can help us reach new application areas.

Q What’s new and exciting in the pipeline?

Within the next 12 months, we anticipate entering a KTP (Knowledge Transfer Partnership) with the Applied Laser Technology Group, part of the Materials Science & Engineering Research Cluster at Dundee University. This collaboration will be supported by Innovate UK. The KTP will give us an additional resource that can help us to develop a next-generation articulated laser arm for industrial high power applications. Our business relies on new technology and innovation to enable our market sector to grow.

Q How are you addressing the need for reducing your carbon footprint?

We recently moved our factory and offices to a new building, which has enabled us to take advantage of improved carbon footprint. The building has solar panels on the roof, is heated by air source heat pumps and benefits from vastly improved insulation, so the energy efficiency of our business has already seen a rapid improvement. We now also have access to shared EV charging points and I am personally evaluating switching to an electric vehicle for my next car. As well as all these points we are dedicated to recycling packaging and becoming more conscious of our carbon footprint.

Q How does Artificial Intelligence impact your business?

Currently we are using AI tools in the design process for our beam delivery, as well as for reviewing documents, summarising meetings and legal documents. In future it is certainly going to be more and more important to adopt and exploit the tools that AI has to offer. Right now, in my opinion, the verbal reasoning is way ahead of the mathematical reasoning – where I have discovered some weaknesses. For sure, the technology is improving at pace and we look forward to being able to use it more comprehensively.

Q What is the best thing about AILU membership for you?

Since we joined AILU, we have benefited from vastly improved networking in the industrial laser material processing industry. AILU gives us access to links and contacts around the UK and globally. As we develop our business in this sector, access to AILU’s network of laser manufacturing, optics suppliers and system integrators will help us to get up the learning curve faster and take advantage of new technologies, connections and potential customers.
