You may have seen commentary around Transmission Network Use of System (TNUoS) charges this week, as final figures for April 2026 have been announced. This is an issue that is becoming increasingly relevant for mid-market businesses with higher electricity demand.

The final figures for 26/27 are slightly down on the most recent forecast, however the TNUoS increases are still astronomical with increases ranging from 40% to 102% depending on the banding of each half-hourly meter.

To keep your members up-to-date, we want to give you a clear, practical view of what’s changing and why it matters.

We’re seeing more businesses exposed to unexpected costs because TNUoS has:

• Increased in value and volatility

• Been misunderstood at contract stage

• Not been actively managed once contracts are in place

Members should be encouraged to:

• Understand how TNUoS is treated in their contracts

• Check whether charges are fixed, passed through, or variable

• Review exposure ahead of renewals or major operational changes

This isn’t about panic or policy speculation. It’s about making sure there are no surprises and that costs are being actively managed rather than discovered after the fact. We continue to see energy brokers in the market using this news as a scare tactic to sign a contract before April, informing business if they sign before April they won’t be affected. This is categorically not true!

If AILU members would like a second opinion or a technical sense-check, we’re happy to help on a no- nonsense basis. We’re offering a free 15-minute impact assessment where we will review your position. A short conversation now is far better than a correction later.
