ARTICULATED BEAM DELIVERY MANUFACTURED IN SCOTLAND

WITH

NICK CLARK MANAGING DIRECTOR, ALBAN LASER SYSTEMS

Alban Laser Systems, based near Edinburgh, Scotland, supplies articulated arm beam delivery systems for lasers. These beam deliveries use mirrors and lenses with multiple articulated joints to allow a beam to be positioned and adjusted in any direction, whilst maintaining the beam quality and stability of the input laser beam. Laser articulated arms support a broad range of laser wavelengths, from ultraviolet through to mid-infrared, and are fully compatible with ultrafast laser sources. They provide a robust and reliable beam delivery solution particularly in applications where fibre optics are not always suitable.

We formed in 2013 but can trace our history back to a spin-out from Heriot-Watt University in the 1980s. Having had various names and owners since then, the current owner, Ray Todhunter, acquired the business in a management buyout. Around 2015 the company achieved a step change in growth when the firm broadened its business to include significant turnover from the USA.

With 6 staff and a turnover last year of around £1 million, Alban is poised for further growth through export markets. Almost all the current business is for export, with USA, Japan and the rest of Asia strategic growth markets.
