EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW THE JOURNEY AS A PREGNANT DJ
Touring while pregnant is a rare feat in the music in- dustry. How has this experience reshaped your pers- pective on your career and your role in the industry?
It’s actually been a super interesting time touring while pregnant, especially over a busy summer period. It’s for- ced me to recalibrate my approach to both my career and my physical limits. I’ve always been about pushing boundaries, with late nights, socialising at events, and staying up later than I needed to. But now it’s about balancing strength and caring not just for my own body but for a little human growing inside. I had to learn how to incorporate resilience, navigating these new challen- ges into what I do and all that surrounds my love of music. I’m constantly learning how to listen to my body, to adapt without losing that drive and keep succee- ding, as well as now allowing my role to evolve from not just being an artist, but to also being a voice for other women in the industry, proving that we can do it all, even with a little one on the way.
Can you share any unexpected joys or challenges you’ve encountered while performing during your pregnancy?
The last 6 months was about recreating myself in the way that I performed and approached my shows. Ob- viously being completely sober, this took on a whole di- fferent focus and approach to each gig and the way I mixed, which in turn made me actually connect to the music and the crowd in a totally different way despite the physical changes. There’s a sense of magic in tho- se sets, where I’ve realized that being pregnant doesn’t slow me down; it brings a new kind of energy and whe- re I am constantly thinking about th life growing inside of me, also while staying connected to the crowd. On the other side of it all, the challenges are real—there’s the physical toll, the exhaustion from long travel, and sometimes the worry about pushing myself too hard. But at the end of the day, it’s worth it because I’m not just performing for myself; I’m paving the way for other women to see that they don’t have to choose between their passion and motherhood and you can find the ba- lance in it all.
REDEFINING WOMEN’S ROLES IN MU- SIC
The music world has traditionally demanded a non- stop pace. How are you balancing the demands of tou- ring with this new chapter in your life?
The balance is constantly evolving. I’ve had to prioriti- ze my health and mental well-being while still honoring my commitments to my fans. I have always had a high natural energy, so this has definitely helped a lot, but most of it has been keeping my mind and body strong at all times. I’m learning to be flexible, to take breaks when needed, and to lean on my team more than ever. It’s a learning curve, but I’m embracing the fact that I don’t have to be “non-stop” to make a meaningful im- pact. I’m showing that women can redefine what suc- cess looks like in this industry, and we don’t have to burn out to thrive.
Have you noticed any shifts in how the industry, fans, or colleagues perceive or support you during this time?
The support has been overwhelmingly positive, and I think it’s a reflection of the growing recognition that women in this industry can and should be allowed to have these experiences with pregnancy, motherhood, the entire spectrum of womanhood without it being seen as a hindrance to their career. My fans have been incredibly understanding, and I’ve had so many collea- gues reach out, offering advice, encouragement, and sending positive comments. Of course having children doesn’t connect to all in the music industry, and maybe it’s not until you have one of your own that you really understand (including myself now) as it opens a who- le new world. There’s a sense of community now that wasn’t always there before, and I think the conversa- tion around women in music is finally shifting in a way that feels empowering.
MAINTAINING WELLNESS ON TOUR
Touring can be physically and mentally draining. What are your go-to practices for maintaining wellness and energy while traveling and performing pregnant?
Touring can be challenging on its own, and it definitely requires a good balanced approach with mindfulness and discipline, pregnant or not. Before being pregnant I was always quite good at getting out on a run or using the hotel gym at least once over a weekend of gigs. So since I’ve made it a priority to stay active with gent- le yoga, light weights, and stretching - nothing too in- tense, but enough to keep my body feeling strong and aligned. Staying hydrated is key, and I also make sure to get enough rest, prioritizing naps before or after gigs. Mentally, I practice breathing exercises, meditation and listen to frequencies to stay grounded and centered. I have always been pretty healthy with my food choi- ces, so I took this to another level of eating really well and planning ahead to make sure I had enough food on tour or for when I arrived at the hotel (I always have a snack bag with me haha) to fuel my body and my growing baby.
Are there specific changes you’ve made to your routi- nes, diet, or schedule to adapt to your pregnancy?
To be honest I had no idea about being pregnant, what foods I could eat or what to expect, as I hadn’t been around anyone else that had been pregnant in a very long time. So I started to read up as much as I could, lis- tening to podcasts, and basically googling everything. I’m making sure I’m getting enough vitamins, especially folic acid and iron, which are so crucial during preg- nancy. In terms of routines, I think this is the first year I have actually maintained sleeping 8 hours a night lol. It meant adjusting my schedule and taking a bit of extra time before and after shows. I’m also making sure to slow down when needed, embracing rest and not over- booking myself. Pregnancy has forced me to really lis- ten to my body, and I’ve become much more in tune with what I need physically and mentally.
