FROM TEACHER TO TOURING DJ
Wakyin’s story is one of transformation. He transitio- ned from a career as a school teacher to becoming a touring DJ—a decision that seemed daunting at first, but ultimately proved to be the right one. His story is one of resilience, self-discovery, and following one’s passion, and he is now an inspiration to many aspiring artists.
“The transition from being a health teacher to a touring DJ was surprisingly smooth. I think it’s because, deep down, I always knew teaching and coaching weren’t my true passions. Even during my time in the classroom, I would spend every free moment—and sometimes even time on the clock—working on music, discovering new tracks, and brainstorming ideas for the Wakyin brand.”
This passion for music was always there, lurking be- neath the surface of his teaching career, and eventua- lly, he made the leap to pursue it full-time.
The doubts and challenges that came with leaving a stable career behind were not lost on Wakyin, and he offers valuable insight into how he overcame them.
“Leaving behind my teaching career was definitely ner- ve-wracking at first. Thoughts like, ‘How will I pay my rent? How will I cover my bills? Where will I end up li- ving?’ kept running through my mind. Playing out end- less ‘what ifs’ can consume you before making a de- cision, but I realized that overthinking only holds you back. Sometimes, you just have to take the leap and figure things out along the way.” These words serve as a reminder that doubt is a natural part of the process, but it should never hold you back from pursuing your dreams.
As Wakyin reflects on his journey, he finds that the most rewarding part has been inspiring others to take the leap and follow their passions. He has learned to embrace failure as part of the growth process and re- mains grounded through the support of his family and friends.
“One of the most rewarding parts of my journey from teacher to DJ has been inspiring others to take that leap and chase their dreams. I’ve learned that we are all capable of achieving far more than we give oursel- ves credit for, but it all starts with believing in the pos- sibility. I constantly remind myself that failure is just another form of growth.” Wakyin’s belief in the power of resilience and perseverance shines through, and he continues to be an example of how hard work and self-belief can lead to incredible transformation.
PERSONAL GROWTH AND REFLEC- TION
Wakyin’s evolution as both an artist and a person has mirrored his professional journey. Moving from local gigs to performing on global stages has pushed him to take risks and step outside his comfort zone. However, staying grounded is essential to his ongoing growth.
“My personal growth and professional evolution have always been closely connected. Moving from local gigs to envisioning my sound on global stages has challen- ged me to step outside my comfort zone, take risks, and embrace both the successes and setbacks along the way.” This recognition of the interconnectedness of personal and professional development speaks to the importance of authenticity and resilience.
