Hurst Green You th....................
Two superb strikes from Oli Ship- ston eased Hurst Green through to the fourth round of the Lancashire FA Youth Cup.
The blustery conditions'and
lively playing surface prevented the Green lads from playing their
normal passinggame, and they soon found themselves a goal down after 10 minutes.
However, the Green responded in splendid style and equalised a
couple of minutes later following a slick move down the right. In-form striker Shipston found
himself out wide near the corner flag and, with the Kirkham keeper
out of position, he smashed home a terrific equaliser from the tightest of angles to the delight of his team
' mates. Within five minutes the Green
went ahead following some tena cious work from Dec Barnes. However^ Shipston still had plen
ty f0 do as he left two defenders in his wake before drilling a superb
left foot shot beneath the Kirkham keeper. The pace and trickery of Green’s
attacking quartet of Harri Yerkess, Tyler Baron, Shipston and Barnes was causing havoc in the home de fence and resulted in a thirdgoalfor the Green, as an attempted clear ance from one of the Kirkham play ers sliced over his own keeper and into the empty net.
Manager Alex Young’s half time
team talk was disrupted by a couple of injuries to key defenders result ing in a second half re-shuffle. To their credit, midfielders Tom .
Cattermole and Max Hutchinson performed admirably in defence alongside John Holden and Rob Atkinson and stifled any attacking . threat from the home team. On the one occasion Kirkham did break through, keeper Ben Armer
produced a fine block with his legs. At the opposite end it was a case
of missed chances by the Green lads as they failed to capitalise on several promising situations. The nearest the Green came to extending their lead was a terrific

Sabden climbed to fourth in Division One of the Harry Dewhurst Memo rial League courtesy of an 8-4 win over Doglnn.
And the forthcoming fix ture schedule could see Sabden close the deficit on leaders Bay Horse. While the table-top
pers entertain second place Heys at the week end, Sabden host base ment club Arden who have lost all nine of their outings to date. Dean Foxall opened the
scoring within the first minute when skipping
past three defenders and'
slamming a 20-yard drive into the bottom corner. Foxall then doubled
the advantage 10 minutes later.
Adam Fuller added a
third in the 17th minute before David Fallon made it 4-0 when delicately clipping the ball over the keeper. Doglnnrespondedbe-
fore the break when Sab den stopper Tom Diggins was beaten for the first time as James Barnes headed home. After the break Paul Astin steered home Ryan
Graves’s assist to make it 5-1, but a quickfire double
just before the hour saw Dog Inn claw their way back to 5-3 - Barnes adding a second goal, followed by an owngoalfrom Sabden. Fallon added his sec
ond with a quarter-of-an- hour remaining from Zac Musker’spass,butthevisi- tors hit back again in the 85th' minute, Zak Robin son on target. However, former Dog
InnskipperBenDewhurst and Jonny Heap netted in
the closing stages to seal maximum points for the hosts.
For Dog Inn, it was a
third consecutive reverse. Dog manager Simon
Kerins fumed at his side’s poor start:“We backed off for their first goal arid that set the tone for the first half. “We played much bet
ter in the second half and I can’t believe we wasted so many good chances; had they gone in, it could
havebeenavery different story.” Travis Blezard was
named Dog’s man of the match..
It’s been a busy period for the ath letes of the Ribble Valley Modern.
• Pentathlon Club with two recent competitions.
In September, it was the British Mod- ernTetrathlon Championships, held
in Solihull, with competitors from all over the country.
Ribble Valley had two representa
tives with Hannah Procterin the Un der 15 girls competition and Oliver Murray in the Under i7boys compe
tition. Held over one day, the pair had
to compete in shooting, swimming, fencing and a combined run and shoot discipline. -
In only her third tetrathlon, Han
nah had a solid start, shooting 80 points for third place and then swim ming 1:05 in 100m freestyle for sec ond place.
Next up was the fencing compe
tition where Hannah had to fence against all the other 23 competitors in a single hit wins competition.
As a relative newcomer to fencing

The hosts were unable to raise a
team, meaning the tie was post poned. ' Rimington were hoping to start
the defence of the trophy they have won in seven of the last nine sea sons, beating Ingleton Town 3-0 in last season’s final at Skipton Town to continue their dominance of the competition. Rimington Reserves were also
without a fixture on Saturday. Terry Braithwaite’s side will hope
to return to action in the East Lanca shire League First Division tomor
row when they travel to face Mill Hill, kick-off 2-15 p.m. Rimington have won seven games

compared to some of the other girls, Hannah had a good start, winning three of her first five bouts. She then showed how much she
hasprogressedbywinningn straight bouts and finished with 19 wins out of 23 for another second place, leaving her in first position overall going into the combined run/shoot. She made a solid start to the final
event, getting all five targets down and running 800m.
Ho wever, she then struggled with
the second set of targets and another girl overtook her, leaving Hannah in second place at the end -her best ev er showing at a National competition. Oliver Murray also had a good completion with fifth place in the
fence, 10th place in the swim and seventh place in the combined run/ shoot for sixth place overall. In October, it was the turn of the
Northwest biathlon championships, with all athletes completing a swim and a run, with distances varying by age group.
Ribble Valley fielded 16 compet
itors, including three teams, and came away with many trophies and ^
' medals. In the individual competition, ■
Jack Stanley won gold in the Under 14 boys competition, with Harvey Griffin in fourth and Elliot Norman in
eighth to also give a team gold medal. In the Under 15 boys, Harry Pilk-
ington won gold and Joseph Murray ' silver, but unfortunately they didn’t have a third team memberfor almost
.certain team gold. Harry Wood won silver in the Un
der 12 boys and Alasdair Moir was^ eighth in the Under 13 boys. There was more success in the
Under 16 boys with Tom Entwistle in second for silver, Joseph Murray in fourth and Adam Stansfield in fifth for another team gold.
For the girls, it was a team gold in
the Under 16 girls with Olivia Green in first, Charlie Coy in sixth and Alice Harding in seventh. In the Under 15 girls, Hannah Procter finished with
bronze despite competing with a backiqjury. Alice Entwistle was 18 th in the Un- J
deri3girls and Jess Aspiri was 17th in the Under 12 girls. Many of the athletes now go for
ward to the National Biathlon finals in Solihull at the end of November to hopefully bring home more medals. 1
