* ? f i l l s ‘Lesson’ on significance of First World War for pupils

Children from Bolton-by-Bowland Primary School and the War Memorial Committee got together to take part in Ribble Valley Borough Council’s centenary of theFirst World War. The children watched as the Mayor of the Ribble Valley, Coun. Michael Ranson, planted an oak tree in the parish. Headteacher Mrs Stansfield said: “We were delighted to be

involvedinthe planting ceremony. Thechildren have also planted poppy seeds around school, which is a great way to symbolise the meaning, and significance that war played in shaping the country we live in. “By planting an oak tree in the village, the children have a permanent reminder and a visual aid which will bring his- torytolife.”
