Thomas and Julian arrive attheir John o'Groatsdestination. (s)

Two childhood friends from Clitheroe were compelled to complete their own person al challenge after being in spired by the national story of teenager Stephen Sutton rasing money for the Teen age Cancer Trust, whilst his own death from the disease was imminent. Julian Silverwood and

Thomas Hough (both 38) cy-. cled from Clitheroe to John o’Groats on the most north eastern tip of Scotland over four and a half days. With minimal training, the pair set off on their jour

ney which tookthem through Penrith, Carlisle, Lockerbie, Glasgow, Fort William and then Fort Augustus. Stephen Sutton hit the headlines earlier this year

when he raised in excess of £4-2 m for the Teenage Can-

. cer Trust after he started his own blog to raise money

for the charity and was pub licly backed by household names such as Jason Man- ford, Jonathan Ross and Jim my Carr.

Jason Manford notably

donated £10,000 of his own money to the charity and also

gave a month’s takings from his comedy clubs around the country.

Julian said: “Despite be

ing last minute, we managed to raise in the region of £2,500

forthe Teenage Cancer Trust, a total which we are really pleased with.”

will see pet owners face fixed penalty notices of £80 for anti-social pet behaviour, or fines of up to £1,000 in a mag istrates’ court, with enforce ment officers out and about to oversee the measures over the coming months. - Five orders have been

approved by the council’s community services com

mittee following the ongo ing problem of dog fouling in public places, particularly on playing fields. Pet owners are required to

remove dog faeces from pub lic land, including footpaths and fields, and to keep their dogs on leads when instruct ed to do so by a dog enforce ment officer. Dogs are prohibited on

sports pitches, playing fields and children’s playgrounds. They must also be kept on a lead in Clitheroe Cemetery and no more than four can be walked in public at any one time.
