Builder grabbed boy (15) by hair
A BUILDER grabbed a 15-year- old boy by the hair and dragged him off a bench outside a
Clitheroe club. Blackburn magistrates heard that
Marc James Holmes then took hold of the boy round the throat and told him he was going to kill him. The court was told Holmes then
told the boy’s younger brother he was ‘not on his list” and could go home. Holmes (39), of Union Street, Clitheroe, was convicted, after a trial, of assaulting the boy. He was made subject to conununity supervision for 18 months and ordered to pay £85 in compensation and £400 costs. Mr Scott Ainge (prosecuting) said
that the boy was outside Low Moor Club with friends when he heard foot steps behind him before being grabbed
by the hair. In a victim impact statement, the
boys’ mother said they had both been deeply affected by the incident. She said they were reluctant to leave
the house and their school attendance and exam results had suffered as a
result. She claimed they had been forced to
move house and this had cost her the chance to buy her council house. But Stephen Barker (defending)
said there was evidence that the boy had been given a referral notice by the police since the incident and the stew ard of the club had reported him being involved in problems there. “I t would appear he has been out
and about since the incident and per haps the impact has not been as sig nificant as outlined by his mother,”
said Mr Barker. “I would ask you to consider
whether the behaviour of the aggrieved and his friends may have been provocative.”
Bridge crash case is sent to crown court
A DRIVER accused of crashing on West Bradford Bridge - causing substantial damage and leaving the bridge closed to traffic for several weeks while repairs were carried out - will appear at Preston
Crown Court. Wayne Spencer (28), of Carter Place,
Hyde, was committed on bail to Preston Crown Court by magistrates in Black-
bum. He has pleaded not guilty to dangerous
driving and the unauthorised taking of a Toyota Hilux pickup from Three Rivers Caravan Park, West Bradford, aggravat
ed by dangerous driving. o / A C C R I N G T O N THERE'S MUCH MORE IN-STORE AND ON-LINE AT
