Advertiser last week, was full of praise for his 22- year-old son, also called Terry, whose brave actions on the night of the disaster helped save his mother Carol (60) and his girlfriend Bec^ (21). . They had all been trapped in the family’s flat^ upstairs, which was completely destroyed by the • blaze when it erupted just before midnight.

working in Manchester and he only came back home' on Saturday afternoon (the day of the fire). “I must say if it were not for Terry and the fire
fighting course he recently attended with the fire brigade through the Prince’s Trust, I don’t think he would have survived. “He made sure all the doors were closed and pre
vented, as much as possible, smoke coming in. He then smashed the windows in the flat to enable their escape. I’m really proud of the way he conducted himself and his actions on the night.”, All three were subsequently rescued by firefighters
from the balcony at the back of the Castle Street building and treated in hospital for the effects of smoke inhalation.
