GUITARISTS and any one who appreciates musi cal excellence should head to The Grand, in

Clitheroe, on Wednesday. It is hosting a concert, and

pre-concert workshop, with one of the. world’s leading guitarists, the acclaimed John Etheridge, and with support from up-and-coming ■ six-strung “wunderkind” Kit Holmes (both pictured). Firmly established as one

of the world’s most respected guitarists, Etheridge’s music spans a myriad of styles and influences. He was guitarist for celebrated jazz violinist Stephane Grappelli and has also performed with Pat

Metheny, Andy Summers, Dizzy Gillespie, Nigel Kennedy and is currently in a duo with the eminent clas sical guitarist John Williams. His special guest for this

imtimate tour is singer/song- writer and rising guitar star Kit Holmes. Her music fuses a broad

range of influences from pop to folk, blues and soul and latest album, “Catch The Echo”, has earned rave reviews. Next Wednesday’s concert

includes a 45-minute pre show guitar workshop, a rare chance to pick up some expert tips and advice about all aspects of guitar pla3dng.

All abilities are welcome, from age 10 upwards - just bring an acoustic guitar to take part or simply listen and learn. The workshop starts at 6-

15 p.m., followed by the con cert at 7 p.m. Tickets cost £14.50 for

adults and £8 for children, including free entry to the guitar workshop. To book, call the box office on 01200 421599 (www.thegrandv- enue.co.uk). For more information on

the featured artists, visit: www.johnetheridge.com and www.kitholmes.co.uk Our pictures show John Etheridge and Kit Holmes. (S)

Prepare for evening of musical excellence

l - r Family fun time

FAMILY entertainment at The Grand twists again this Friday with the launch of the “Family Fun Club night”. Ribble Valley children are invited to dust

down their dancing shoes and step to the beat at the new event that takes place tomorrow, between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Parents can accompany up to eight chil

dren to the event and enjoy a boogie on the dancefloor themselves, or simply kick back and enjoy a drink in The Grand’s cafe. The event comes hot on the heels of the

hugely popular “N-R-G” event, which sells out to a capacity audience of secondary school students every month. The club night will alternate with Fami

ly Fun Night, more of a games and food led event, on the third Friday of every month. Admission, by advanced ticket or pay on the door, is £5 per child, but free for adults.

Plenty to do!

NOW the darker nights are fast approach ing people are looking for activities to join in which will while away the long winter months. St Mary’s Centre, in Church Street,

Clitheroe, has a packed programme of activities for every member of the family. Every Thursday there are dance classes for ballroom and Latin American in the lower hall. These are for both beginners and improvers and cost £ 5 each session. Improvers from 7 to 8 p.m. and 8-30 to 10 p.m. for beginners. Tel Vicky on 01200 442987 for more information. In additiion to dancing there are classes

for yoga, jujitsu, ladies’ badminton, youth theatre, Little Voices Choir, Help the Aged keep-fit and meetings for University of the Third Age, Brownies, Scouts, Cubs and Beavers as well as many one-off events. Why not go along to “Clitheroe’s Village Hall” and find out more.
