Jean is one of thousands of people being helped with the big digital TV switchover.
“It was bothering me - all this talk about ‘digital’. I didn’t know what it meant. All I want to be able to do is switch on my TV and watch it. It’s like the supermarkets, you just get to know where things are and then they change it!”
Switchover starts soon The digital switchover in Liverpool,
Manchester, Lancashire, Cheshire and north Staffordshire will start on 4 November 2009. Everyone needs to be ready to make sure they can keep watching their TV.
Who can get help? If you’re 75 or over, have lived in a
care home for six months or more, get (or could get) certain disability allowances or are registered blind or partially sighted, the Help Scheme can convert one of your TVs to digital.

was wondering what to do, then the
Help Scheme sent me an information pack - it turned up in the post - I didn’t have to ask for it - and it said that for £40 they’d sort it out. A nice chap came round and set it all up and showed me exactly how to use it which was all included; there were no hidden costs. 1 get more channels too, so for once, it’s a change for the better!” This service is free if you get pension credit. Income Support, Employment and Support Allowance or income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance.

Turner prize’ ■ switching to digital TV easy for me
jean’s neighbour already had a digital TV, but was still able to use the Help Scheme to convert another set: “Peggy’s TV in her living room already had more than five channels so was already digital. The Help Scheme switched her second TV in her bedroom so that would keep on working after the switchover too.”
The Help Scheme promise The Switchover Help Scheme
promises to deliver high standards of quality and care to everyone taking up the offer. You can choose an appointment time that suits you and can ask for a family member, friend or carer to be there when equipment is delivered or installed.
