20 Clitheroe Advertiser & Times, Thursday, September 3rd, 2009 Hand back my
daughter’s shoes I WOULD like to ask the person who took my daughter’s brand-new shoes from the soft play area in Clitheroe on Friday, August 21st, to hand them back into the soft play area please. I had to carry my daughter home
as she had no shoes and the ones left by other parents were too small and obviously not new! So, a warning to other parents: do
not leave your shoes in the pockets provided, which plenty do (not any more!) or you will have to pay for another pair like I did last week and again this week - thanks for that! VERY UNHAPPY MOTHER AND LITTLE DAUGHTER Via e-mail
Wild flowers make
such a difference THANK you for our lovely wild flower roundabout in Mellor Brook, it has made such a difference to come across such wonderful natural colour on a very busy roimdabout. We in Mellor Brook have had a
bad winter with all the roadworks that went on the A59 to facilitate the BAE systems new build. The traffic poured into our small village on entering and exiting to the BAE site at shift times and throughout the day. The road has somewhat improved
and traffic seems a little less, but still busy. The residents feel that the lit tle colour that has been put in place on the roundabout has been proved to be a great improvement to the area.

roy.prenton@eastta____________ We hope that this is a beginning as
there are plans to put a spring plant ing followed by summer planting and to be spread around the village. Mr Mark Barnes, at the Lan
cashire Council Offices at Whalley, has been very helpful in choosing the right wild flower mix and indeed the planning of the spring planting scheme. The grant of £1,200 from BAE
will go a long way towards this proj ect, but we still want more support from the firms that use the village roads for their business. This is a prime example of local
people having a say on how the vil lage should look and what they want, this is essential. The little colour that has been put
in place already has been a great a conversation piece to any one pass ing through the village. STELLA BRUNSKILL, Councillor for Mellor and Mellor Brook Via c-mail
Nobody seems to
have cared for dog I HAVE never owned a dog or par ticularly wanted to, so I find it rather strange to be writing in sup port of T. Garrard (Letters, August 27th) and on behalf of a dog! I too.
am uneasy at the inept way this affair appears to have been dealt
with. Nobody seems to have cared for
this dog. Certainly not its owners, who were quite willing to let it roam around upsetting villagers and with out a thought for what would proba bly be the ultimate outcome for their "pet". What a pity their co-operation didn't extend to making sure it w ^ exercised on a lead, and having it retrained with a behavioural group when the problem first arose, mstead of lethal injection. I watched a programme about
dogs which included Shar Peis and I was very impressed with what was said about them. Among other things, that they are
quiet, dignified dogs, but obviously if a dog is left to its own devices for any length of time without loving companionship and firm training, it can become aggressive and unpre dictable, also sensing, as this one probably did, that every man’s hand is against it! As for evil? To me that implies a
conscious wish and desire to do harm. Is a dumb animal capable of this concioiis wish? I think not! Dan gerous, savage, wily, all these things according to their species. But evil in my opinion is a designation applica ble to only one species, namely cer tain members of the human race, as
daily papers. J. BISHOP, Queen Street, Whalley
Council cancels
football at Roefield WHAT is happening at Koefield? We live in a world that promotes activities and sporting events to keep our fitness levels up and our weight down. We want our children to be
involved in sport. So what does Kib ble Valley Borough Council do? It effectively cancels open age football at Koefield. It is not good enough to promote facilities without changing rooms or offer an alternative like Longridge. Firstly adult football teams have
to provide changing facilities or they cannot play in a league and secondly some of the teams that have used Koefield play in the Craven League, against predominantly Yorkshire opponents, and the league would not let them play at Longridge. The well-organised Clitheroe
Wolves provides numerous football teams for juniors ranging from five to 18 years of age. I believe that this organisation has agreed to continue playing its home games at Koefield
have any other options as it would be impossible to provide alternative pitches for all the teams it runs. Even in this younger age bracket it is not acceptable to offer football pitches without changing facilities. They play against junior teams
attested to daily on TV and in our
from areas around Blackburn, Bum- ley and Accrington. Roefield repre sents what the Kibble Valley has to offer in t e ^ of football facilities. I suggest these visiting teams will not be inipressed with a lack of changing facilities. Why could some tempo rary changing facilities not be arranged? When other councils have refurbished changing rooms they have made alternative arrangements so that footballers still have chang ing facilities. Why was the work not planned to start as soon as last sea son finished? This would have meant that the new facility would be up and running in February 2010 given the 40-week period that is required to complete the work. If this was not possible the chang
ing facilities could have continued to be used until the work was due to start. Once work started they would then not be used for 40 weeks. As it stands the clock is running and 40 weeks from today is June 10th, 2010. This is eight weeks before the 2010/11 season will start. As the council has stated "the
work vrill start as soon as possible" 1 presume it has no idea when it will commence. This will not fill Kibble Valley footballers with much confi dence and gives the impression of complete disorganisation. STEVE RUSH, Mearley Syke, Clitheroc
