from St Peter's Church along the canal bank to Laugher Bridge and through Green Bank. Ingthorpe Lane was reached and the group returned to the Cross Keys over the fields. Despite a grey, misty evening, some

good photographs were taken. One of the photograph is featured above and shows Langber Bridge. Meanwhile, the results of the Inter-

Unsafe tree to be felled .H' ... declare your undying love

AN unsafe copper beech tree is to be felled in Brungerley Park, Clitheroe, and the future of a second tree at the site is imder consideration. A routine inspection of the trees

identified a series of stem fractures and further investigations using ther mal imaging revealed that each has less than 30% sound wood at base, meaning both are at risk of decay and collapse. Ribble Valley Borough Council’s

countryside officer, David Hewitt, said: “There are only two options available. One is to pollard the trees, which will mean removing a number

of branches. However, as neither of the trees has been pollarded before, a substantial pruning will be required. This will not only destroy the appear ance of the trees, but put them imder considerable stress, from which they might not recover. “The other option is to fell and

replant the trees. “It has been decided to fell the tree

with the most serious fractures imme diately. Meanwhile, options for the second tree are under consideration. It may be possible to retain the second

tree, albeit with considerable pruning work.”

A SECOND Textiles Open Exhibition is being staged at Clitheroe’s Platform Gallery this autumn. The opportunity to exhibit

was open to amateur, profes sional and student textile artists who live in Lancashire (including Greater Manches ter) and Yorkshire. From more than 100 sub

missions, 52 artists were selected to exhibit their work. More than 80 works are on show, celebrating the wealth of textile talent in the two counties. The exhibition features a

diverse range of craft tech niques, from conventional stitching to woven and con structed textiles, paired intri- cate jewellery pieces and large wall hangings. It will run until October 21st. One of the exhibiting

artists will be chosen to receive the Selectors’ Prize for Innovation, in the form of a £100 gallery voucher. Throughout the exhibition,

visitors will also be able to vote for their favourite piece in the People’s Prize, with the winner announced on October 21st and awarded a £100 gallery voucher.
