EX T R A se a tin g had to be brought into St John’s Church, Read, on Sunday for the Civic Service of the Ribble Valley Mayor, Coun. John Hill, and his Mayoress Mrs Ph ilip p a Hill. T h e church was filled to
capacity, with many former mayors, mayoresses and con sorts in attendance. The service was conducted by the Rev. Dr Alan Sowerbutts in his capaci ty as Chaplain to the Mayor. Standards were received during th e
opening v- hymn, “Jerusalem”, including those of-
•the R e ad and Simonstone Scouts, Guides and Brownies, these youth organisations being among the Mayor’s charities for his year in office. The first reading taken from

in th e r e s ta u r a n t ’s din in g room. Nicole was presented with a £100 cheque for her school, a voucher; for a nieal for four a t La Locanda and will haye.her dish featured on th e r e s ta u r a n t ’s ch ild ren ’s menu for 12 months. Anna received a cheque for

ing th e hymn “Guide me 0 thou great Redeemer” and fol lowing the blessing the Nation al Anthem was sung to close the service. The Mayor and Mayoress waited outside the church to personally thank all who attended.
Youngsters to toddle along
A GROUP of toddlers from the Ribble Valley is preparing to have fun and take p a r t in the UK’s biggest event for chil dren under five. Around 16 to 20 youngsters
from the Bowland Montessori Pre-School will pu t their tiny feet forward for th e 1.5 mile; challenge at 9-30 a.m. today. The successful pre-school is
currently based a t Sawley Vil lage Hall, b u t th e walk will
s ta r t and finish a t Bolton-by- Bowland Primary School. In September, the pre-school
will celebrate moving into a new home - a dedicated class room a t S t J am e s ’ School, Clitheroe. If you are interested in your
