Drink-driver fined and banne^
THREE people had to be helped from a car after a drink-driver crashed in the early hours of the morning. . Blackburn magistrates heard that
David Walmsley admitted to drinking seven or eight pints of cider before driv ing home to Waddington. But the 20-year old builder told police
he could remember nothing between standing outside the Swan and Royal pub in Clitheroe and later becoming aware of flashing lights and people help ing him and his passengers out of his car.
Swing is the thing!

•
St Augustine’s RC High School, in Elker Lane, it will feature the highly accomplished St Augustine’s Swing Band, together withDarwen
.. Brass. The concert
. starts at 7-30 p.m. and some tickets are still available, either in ad'vance from the school or on the door. They cost £6 for adults and £3 for chil dren and senior citizens.
Walmsley, of Cross Lane, Waddington,
pleaded guilty to driving with excess alco- ■ hoi, without insurance and without due care and attentiqn. He was fined £540 with £65 costs and
banned from driving for 20 months. Mr Andrew Robinson (prosecuting)
said police had been called ^ter a Ford Escort crashed into Brungerley Bridge, in Waddingtoh Road. As well as Walmsley there was another
male and a female passenger in the car* and all three needed hospital treatment.
When Walmsley was breathalysed
three hours after the crash he gave a read ing of 64 against the legal limit of 35. Mr Stephen Barker (defending) said
Walmsley had driven into Clitheroe for a night out, but fully intended getting a taxi home. He said Walmsley could not recall what had caused the accident, but was aware there was some damage to a wall just before the bridge. . “He is employed as a builder and has
approached the owner of the wall and offered to rebuild it,” said Mr Barker.
