Manager had two fights in one night

THE parts manager at a Clitheroe car dealership ran off after police found him fighting in the street on Saturday night. Blackburn magistrates heard that

minutes later Shaun Stell was caught fighting with another man and again made good his escape. But he was tracked by the town’s

CCTV system and eventually found hiding down a back alley.

Stell (23), of Queen S tre et ,

Clitheroe, pleaded guilty to using threatening behaviour. He was fined £100 with £58 costs. Mr Scott Ainge (prosecuting) said

police were called to Wellgate at 11-30 p.m. where they saw Stell fighting with another man and both ran off in different directions. A second officer saw Stell a few min

utes later involved in another fight with a different man. “They were two separate incidents

and he was obviously looking to fight with whoever he came across th a t night,” said Mr Ainge. Mrs Liz Parker (defending) said

Stell was very sorry about his behav iour, which had landed him before the court for the first time. “He is a hard-working young man

who has worked his way up to a posi tion of responsibility and this behav iour is totally out of character,” said Mrs Parker. “You can be confident you will not be seeing this young man again.”

WE now have a fabulous new feature on our website. Click on to “My Pictures” and

you will see a range of photographs covering aspects of life in the Rib ble Valley. The photographer is Rimington

resident, John Toms John has spent much of his work ing life travelling, and he always

takes a camera along with him on his voyages.

After years in the Royal Navy

and working in East Africa, he set tled with his Danish wife, Char lotte, in the Ribble Valley and devoted his considerable talent and passion for photography to captur ing local scenes and wildlife. He embraced digital photogra

phy early, and found the techniques quite different, which inspired him to go out into the Ribble Valley,

often on foot and bicycle, to try and capture the changing landscape; “the Ribble Valley in a new light”. For John, light is the most impor tant factor in getting a good picture - he says that he can re-visit a given spot many times and get a different picture each time. Some subje cts , such as mist,

snow, rainbows, clouds, or even ani mals and birds, can be very fleeting and one has to be there at the right moment, so he sometimes has to

wait to get the very best shot. Virtually all John's digital photo

graphs are taken as the scene actu ally appeared on the day, "nothing is added or taken away" as he says, but he has also experimented with techniques which some might regard as 'cheating', and he is quick to remind us that all sorts of simi lar tricks and "cheats" were used in the dark room when final printing of film was done. Many photographers have taken

great pictures in the Ribble Valley, and John hopes that his are a use ful addition to the way people see this beautiful area. Many of his pictures are available as greetings cards and postcards (www.lanc- scape.co.uk) from shops around the Valley, including Ribble Valley Tourist Information Centre. © If you want to add your digital

images to our collection, click on to www.clitheroeadvertiser.co.uk and follow the links.
