NEW local butcher Alan Beecroft, of Coun- trystyle Meats, based at Clitheroe Auction Mart’s complex, supported the market well by purchasing the champion pen of prime lambs at the Clitheroe Christmas Show. The pen of four Beltex Lambs from
respected local farmer Ian Lancaster, of Wiswell, weighed 53kg and made £170 per head (321ppkg). Mr Beecroft, who judged the sheep and
cattle classes along with fellow local butcher Allan Hacking, also bought the Reserve Champion pen, weighing slightly less at 38.5kg and selling a t £80 per head (208ppkg). Buyers and sellers alike agreed it was one
of the best lamb shows in recent years, with quality lambs shown in all classes, strong demand for prime livestock and average prices exceeding expectations.

109 arrests. Police were presented with an award a t the annual Crimestoppers charity ball, which took place last month at Farring ton Lodge in Leyland.
Det. Insp. Pete Simm said: “I am delighted to receive this award on
made to Crimestoppers resulting i n ................ - - -
behalf of the Division and I hope people are reassured that we treat all information very seriously and we will take robust action where possible. Crimestoppers continues to be a major tool in our fight against crime in East Lancashire. As a result of calls to the anony
mous number last year we were able to arrest 109 people, which demon strates how valuable the informa tion is to the police. “Even when it is not possible to
make an arrest, the information helps us to build a picture of who is committing crime in the area.
Ignoring crime encourages crim 1
inals and I urge members of the public to continue to call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.” Crimestoppers is a registered
charity and anyone whose informa tion leads to an arrest may be enti tled to an award.
