Ramblers head for Welsh countryside
MEMBERS and friends of the local branch of the Ramblers’ Association left the Ribble 'Valley behind and enjoyed a coach ram ble to Loggerheads Coun try Park in Clwyd, North Wales. A choice of three guided
walks of varying lengths ensured th a t everyone could enjoy the beautiful countryside on a walk that suited them. Those feeling the most
energetic went on the strenuous 10-mile walk following the route of Offa’s Dyke to the summit of the Jubilee Tower. An eight-mile walk
went through the local vil lages and forest, and the shorter seven-mile walk went around the base of Ffrith Mountain and then back into the Country Park with time to look at
items of local history asso- ciated with the mining industry. Others had a much more leisurely day enjoying the visitors’ cen tre, a local pub lunch and a gentle stroll by the river in the afternoon. Local pickup points in
Whalley and Clithoroe meant th a t everyone could leave the car behind and enjoy the company of friendly folk all day. The next outing is on
the Sunday, August 6th, to the village of Castleton in the Derbyshire Peak District. All who would enjoy a
day out in the countryside with no need to worry about travelling, or where to walk, can join the Ramblers’ Association. Telephone bookings to
Mrs Hands on 01282 73597.
