Plaque stolen A green slate plaque giving a brief history of Whalley Abbey has been stolen from the North West Gateway, which spans The Sands. The gatehouse is managed by the Her­ itage Trust for the North West, in co­ operation with Eng­ lish Heritage.


Air ambulance rescue


A MOTORCYCLIST who came off his machine at Gisburn on Sunday was flown to hospital by the North West Air Ambu­ lance. The man, in his mid-40s, sustained a suspected compound fracture to his right leg. "The accident happened at 10.05 a.m.
