Students delighted at ‘glorious’ results
_______________ by Natalie Cox
ACADEMIC success across the Ribble Valley was enjoyed and achieved by A and AS-level stu dents. On Thursday morning
sixth form pupils at Clitheroe Royal Gram mar School received their exam grades. Four high-fliers who
gained A grade in all five subjects studied were Helen Bache, Kinga Egressy, Anna Sycheva and Emily Thornber. A further 25 had an excel lent day achieving A- grades in four subject areas. Miss Judith Evans, the
headteacher of Clitheroe Royal Grammar School said she was absolutely delighted with the results achieved by her pupils. Said Miss Evans: “Our students have again real ly excelled. “We think we have one
of the biggest school sixth forms in the country with 313 students who have
taken A-levels and we are really proud of all their achievements. “The results are a real
team effort. The students have worked really hard and we have amazing, dedicated, hardworking teachers and support staff, as well as parents.” She added that 60% of
all the grades were As and Bs which Miss Evans described as a “tremen dous achievement”. “The students are
delighted and are now looking forward to going to the university of their choice,” she said. On the strength of their
results 16 CRGS pupils will be heading to either Oxford or Cambridge. Due to the sheer num
ber of pupils attending the school’s sixth form, the AS level students had
STRAIGHT A students Katie Blacklidge and Luke O’Duffy (B170806/1C)
to wait until Thursday afternoon to collect their results.
Said Miss Evans: “Due
to the number of pupils in our sixth form we have

had to stagger the results. We have 640 students, which is a phenomenal size and we are like a sixth form college, most grammar schools have 150 pupils in each year group and we have twice that number. “We had 318 students
taking AS exams and the results are really brilliant, even b etter than last year. Again 50% were As and Bs.” Altogether 10 pupils
gained six A grades - one in every subject studied, and eight achieved five straight A grades. Speaking about the A
and AS level results. Miss Evans described them as “glorious”.
