Family miss out on trip to N ew York

A READ family of three decided cau tion was the best policy when they cancelled a planned flight to New York the morning after news broke that a terrorist plot had been foiled. Mr John Stubbs, his wife Heather and

daughter Sarah-Jane Stubbs were plan ning on flying to the Big Apple the day after intelligence services had cracked a plot to blow up airliners flying to America. The family, who own Discount Cards in

the Charterwalk shopping centre, Burn ley, had planned the short break to cele- Ijrate Sarah-Jane’s 20th birthday. Instead, they opted for London by train

from Preston. Mrs Stubbs said: “We actually lived in

Florida for three years and returned to Burnley 11 years ago. Sarah-Jane has never been to New York and we had planned a shopping trip for her birthday. “When the news broke about the plot

on the Thursday, we just thought it wasn’t worth all the hassle and worry. “We were due to fly with an American

airline. Delta, and land at JFK Airport, so we didn’ t really feel comfortable.” The family said that they would have

travelled if they had been going to any other American destination other than New York. Instead they swopped Times Square for

Oxford Street - and a visit to Madame Tussauds and a West End show. Mrs Stubbs added: “We ended up hav

ing a great time in London, and we also visited my mum first in Middlesbrough. Sadly we couldn’t get any refund on our air tickets, but we plan to go to Las Vegas for Sarah-Jane’s 21st so she is looking for ward to that.”
