burn Road, Mr Mark Holden,, returned home to find smoke coming from the roof and windows of his house. Mr Holden, who is managing

director of Read Caravans Ltd, now based at Blackburn, alerted fire fighters, who found smoke bellowing from the property before witnessing a window exploding out fuelled by the blaze.

It took four fire-fighters in breath

ing apparatus and two hose reels to tackle the fire. The property suffered severe damage to the ground and upper floors, while the staircase was completely burnt away. Later that night, fire-fighters were

called out to several properties in Eaves Hall Lane, West Bradford, which share the same line of electric ity as the Waddington property.

These residents reported their

microwave ovens and central heating boilers were giving off smoke. Mr McGrath said the fire service

was now working with United Utilities to try to establish the cause of the fire. Of the Waddington fire, Mr

McGrath added: “It was lucky that no one was on the premises at the time. It was a very severe fire and one that had been burning for quite a while.”

Valley driver bailed on

death charge

A RIBBLE VALLEY lorry driver appeared in court on Tuesday accused of causing the deaths of three members of an RAF family in a crash in Lincolnshire. Neil Margerison (23) is alleged to

have caused the deaths of Fit Lt Neville Rees, his wife, Karen, and their 11-year-old son Andrew by driv ing dangerously. They were killed after being

granted bail to appear before Lincoln Crown Court on September 19th. Fit Lt Rees (43), who trained fly

ing instructors at RAF Cranwell, Ws 41-year-old wife and their son were travelling in their Peugeot when the accident happened. The couple had a second son,

David (14), who was with friends when the tragedy took place. Earlier this year the Czech driver

of one of the lorries, 29-year-old Oldrich Frank, appeared before mag istrates in Grantham, Lincolnshire. He was sentenced to a day's deten

tion and banned from the roads tor a year after pleading guilty to an offence of dangerous driving.
