Safety PC Geoff Pennal reported that he had contacted the Post Office regarding com plaints about vehi cles driven on the footway and had been assured this would not happen again. Mr Tony Brown said he had noticed an improve ment, but the big van was still mount ing the footway and carrying out danger ous manoeuvres.
The clerk was asked to write to the county council about the placing of a bollard in the area.
Another member of the public reported that overhanging trees from the golf club made walking on the footway on Accrington Road dif ficult. The lengths- man was to be con tacted about this and trees growing from the wall between the Vicarage and the Abbey Gatehouse.
Communications between the parish council and the bor ough council are to be maintained and the matter to be kept on the agenda. It was agreed that there could be problems over land valuation where the present toilets are and the question of new toi lets being “value for money”. Coun. Joyce Holgate had spoken at a meeting of the borough council regarding the need for toilets in the vil lage and the regular complaints she received. Coun. Mike Fallon said Whalley was the last village on the list to have proper toilet facilities and suggested people write letters of com plaint to the borough council. The leader of the borough council, Coun. John Hill, agreed there would be discussion at future meetings.
War Memorial Coun. Bob Bolsover reported a bench, paid for by the Pick wick Committee, had been delivered, but not yet put on site. Inquiries about this and the quote for the steps were to be made. Coun. Steve Barker thanked Mr George Hardman for the gardening he had done on the site.
Disturbances PC Pennal said he would look into the
matter of youngsters congregating and
causing disturbances. It was best if people phoned 01254 512512.
Rats The pest control offi cer was to be advised about rats being seen in the back of King Street.
Churchyard
The cost of work remaining on the slabs in the Parish Churchyard would be another £3,000.
