Three inches of extra shoulder width make all the difference in creat ing a car that feels large enough to be something from the next class up. Nor do the big car-cues stop
there. This SXi, like every other Corsa variant, gets a clever elec tric power steering system that needs less than three turns lock- to-lock for easy town work, yet feels composed and settled over the kind of longer motorway
trips that this latest small Vaux hall now takes in its stride. One of the reasons you can now easily consider such journeys is that it is now so refined, even in its cheaper forms. The Easytronic automated transmission can be specified with the 1.2-litre SXi in three or five-door form. Leave this system in automatic mode and electronics determine the ideal gear ratio for the actual operating conditions and control the shifting process. All in all, the latest Corsa SXi
makes a decent job of bringing a sporty flavour to economy motoring. It may not look quite as cute as its predecessor but it is a hugely better car. At the end of the day, th a t should be what counts.
