VOLUNTEERS are desperately need ed to help with this year’s Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal’s Clitheroe town centre street collection. Clitheroe’s honorary poppy appeal

organiser Robert Scott explained that the street collection will be held on Sat urday, November 11th. He thanked last year’s volunteers

“Particular thanks must go to the

Rotary Clubs of Clitheroe and Ribbles- dale, the Inner Wheel of Ribblesdale, the Clitheroe branch of the Red Cross

and to the superstores Tesco, Booths and Sainsburys,” Mr Scott said. Anyone who would like to help sell

poppies can call in at the Red Cross centre. Back King Street, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. and ask for Mr Scott. Volunteers must be over 16. Organisations and individuals, who

obtained a poppy wreath from Mr Scott last year can once again collect their wreaths from the Red Cross cen tre between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. For further information about the

Groups could apply for up to

£300 per project to improve the quality of life for older people. The money has already been used to buy computers and new equip ment for groups just getting on their feet.

Corbridge Court’s social com

mittee applied for £259 towards a new bingo machine. County Coun. Dorothy Westell visited Clitheroe to present the machine to resi dents.
