GREETINGS CARDS and WRAPPING PAPER
The mountain of
mail that makes up the Christmas post isn't just tough on
. the postman - ' forests suffer too. And if your
Christmas card- list includes people you haven't spoken to in 10 years, then now may well be the perfect time to consider cutting back or sending recycled cards. For those who
are computer liter ate as well as envi ronmentally aware, e-cards make a real ly great paper-free alternative to tra ditional cards, or you could always get creative and make your own. Not only is this
good for the envi ronment, it can also be a great way to keep over-excited children occupied for a couple of hours. You can rustle up

If you do decide

DECORATIONS Christmas can be
your chance to get in touch with your inner Blue Peter presenter as you transform old washing up liquid bottles and coat hangers into attrac tive decorations. Or if you prefer
to buy your decora tions, then invest in decent quality items that can be re-used year after year rather than flimsy, cheap alter natives th a t will have fallen to bits by New Year. Not only will this
help to protect the planet, it will also protect your pocket too in the long run. An artificial tree
will see you through countless festive seasons if it's packed away prop erly for the rest of year. Real trees may make your living

Food for thought - in control of the calories
WHAT'S the best thing about Christ mas? Spending time ivith your family^ opening presents, watching TV...or stuffing yourself silly with fabulous food that's bulging with calories? Be
honest...for many of us, food and
drink are probably top of the list of festive treats we just can't do without. Take away the telly, abandon all plans
for presents, but don't whatever you do make us miss out on our Christmas grub! No wonder people on average gain 51bs
over four weeks at Christmas. And it's no surprise that so many of us struggle into January feeling fat, flabby and in desper ate need of a slimming solution. But it really doesn't have to come to
that. You can enjoy your Christmas indul gences without ending up with a stomach as big as Santa's.
All it takes is a little care...and, of
course, a bit of self-control. When it comes to party food, it is fright
eningly easy to consume as many calories nibbling canapes as you would if you ate a full meal. So don't stand next to the snack table just shovelling it
