A ‘stormy’ arrival for new minister

h u n d r e d s of parishioners at Clitheroe’s United Reformed Church braved the recent week end storms to welcome their new minister, the Rev. Norma John

son. m Special guests who packed the

church in Moor Lane to greet Mrs Johnson and her husband, George, included Ribble Valley Mayor Coun. Charles Warkman and his wife, Ruth, along with town mayor Coun. Joan Knight. Mrs Johnson, who moved to

Clitheroe from Redcar, where she served in the East Cleveland Group since her ordination in 1994, said she was overwhelmed to see so many faces at the ser vice and is looking forward to meeting more people and mak ing new friends. The new minis ter has taken up the joint pas torate of Clitheroe, Barrow and Newton-in-Bowland. Civic dignitaries and guests

are pictured at Mrs Johnson’s induction. (A080105/5)

Talented local accompanist offers his musical services

A TALENTED local pianist and accompanist is offering his musical skills to any group or organisation that can make use of them. Alun Day (37) has been playing

piano and keyboard for 25 years and was ako choirmaster of Waddington Church for many years. Trained by one of Clitheroe’s leading piano tutors, he has a wide repertoire and experience as an accompanist to a male voice choir. He can even supply his own keyboard and music from a large and varied collection. A previous attempt to find local

groups that could utilise his taleiit fell on stony ground and now he is trying again. “It deeply grieves me daily tnat i

have this skill and ability which is being wasted and not used,” he said. “I have tried many other avenues

but have hit brick walls each tiine. “I would welcome any inquiries

from any groups, be it a hotel, cafe, restaurant, I am willing to play

whenever required.” You can contact Mr Day by

phone on 01200 423698 or by e-mail at alunday939@msn.com
