Ribble Valley to sample its exciting coarse and game fishing. We have it alll The jewel in the crown is without doubt the River Ribble. If you want to catch a big barbel, chub, salmon or seatrout, the Ribble can make your dream come true. It is coarse and game fishing of excellence.

F

I rate the Ribble as one of the top five nvers in the country. Many years ago the River Calder was a polluted water. Not today. It is a river of quality fishing, good chub and barbel, also brown, seatrout salmon and grayling. And we must not forget the River Hodder, with its excel lent grayling, salmon and seatrout fishing.

Throughout the Ribble Valley there are numer ous stillwaters where, for the pnce of a day per mit, you can fish with the chance of catching a 401b carp or 101b rainbow trout.

One of the most exciting ways of catching still- water trout is with a team of buzzers (chirono- mids) and Barnsfold and Stocks reservoirs both offer this exciting way of angling.

River trouting with a dry fly is my way of enjoying a summer's evening. The Ribble offers some excellent sport, upstream of Mitton Bndge there is the Edisford Hall syndicate or downstream of Mitton bridge is the EA water - two good venues.

Seatrout fishing In the darkness is tnily exciting. As the owls hoot up and down the river valley, you could be standing waste deep playing a

fresh fish straight in from the ocean. As stated, we have it all in the Ribble Valley.

You may have conquered the greater ranges of the Andes or Himalayas, or you may just be a keen walker. From rambler to hardened rock climber, the Clitheroe Mountaineenng club (CMC) has something to offer you.

We may not have any mountains in the Ribble Valley, but there are plentiful climbing and boul- dering venues hereabouts and we have regular walking and mountaineering trips further afield.

Formed in 1978, the club prides itself on being very active with weekly meets at venues throughout the area, such as Witches Quarry, near Downham, and Craig y, Longndge. Outside area climbing midweek includes Wilton, Anglezarke, Troy quarry and Earl Crag - to name

but a few.

Open to all age groups, the club welcomes new members, from experienced climbers and walk ers to complete beginners, and is active all year round for walking and climbing activities, to lec tures and slide shows, to map reading training.

A regular indoor meet is held at Clitheroe Cricket Club, Chatburn Road on the third Thursday of each month (except July) at 8 p.m. Outdoor weekly meets run midweek from late Spnng to early Autumn. There are weekends away all year

round.

Find out more by coming along on June 16th. Meet the members and maybe start a new .
