details. It seems a long time since a certain PCSO arrived in Clithcroe back in November 2002, sporting a dodgy blue and yellow jacket and an even dodgi er hat! It was almost as if an alien

had landed as people pointed over and wondered what this new breed of officer was there for and what exactly they could

do. The success of Community •

Support Officers across the county and indeed, all over the country has seen the numbers rise dramatically over recent times and this is a credit to the good work PCSO’s have been doing in their communities

and I cover Longridge area and some of the surrounding villages, such as Chipping. I’m 34-years-old and com menced my role in April 2004. One of the major complaints and problems I have to deal with in Lon-

gridge are illegally parked cars and speeding vehicles, wldch is mainly due to the rise in volume of vehicles. New businesses are coming to the area which is helping to make Longridge a very busy, and up and coming town. As with most PCSO’s I also receive a lot of complaints about large groups of youths hanging around in the town. Underage drinking and crimi nal damage are matters that I am working toward reducing through high-visibility patrol and pro-active relations. I enjoy many aspects of my job

especially as the work is varied from one day to the next and I enjoy work ing closely with my Police Officer Colleagues. Should you need to con tact me regarding Longridge matters, my voicemail number is 01772 209583

Hello there. We are the area’s

Emergency Services Communi ty Support Officers and we joined the Police family in December 2003. ESCO’s were introduced to address concerns of people living in rural areas of Lancashire who said they felt isolated from the mainstream services such as the police. Fire and Ambulance Services. It was decided that a unique service that combines the three emer-

■ gency services would have the most impact in rural areas. Our job involves carrying o u t .

the regular PCSO role for the Police, but we have our own vehicles and cover some of the more rural areas that previously had a lack of a uniformed pres ence. We are also responsible for

home fire safety checks in the Ribble Valley, on behalf of the Fire Service. This involves fit ting smoke detectors and offer ing fire safety advice. In addi tion, we visit all the primary schools in the area giving fire safety awareness presentations to the Year 2 and Year 6 pupils. From an ambulance service per spective, we are fully trained Krst Responders and carry oxy-

starting work in this job as I expect it to provide a wide variety of chal lenges in solving problems that affect the local community. I hope to use my communication and problem solving skills to benefit the area as best I can. I aim to make a success of the role and in turn, make the resi dents of Wilpshire and Langho feel happier and safer.
