Muncher scoffs hotel’s leftovers

ted bodice of ivory satin encrusted mth crystals, mth a full skirt made of silk and an organza overlay decorated with crystals. She carried a bouquet of dolce-vita roses, nerines, cala lilies, orchids, astibe and spray roses, with diamantes and crystal detail. She was attended by Donna O’Reilly, Vicky Aspin and
Victoria Nuttall, with her sister, Andrea Harrison as chief bridesmaid. They ail wore cerise pink dresses designed by the bride which had a satin bodice with crystal detail and fitted skirt with fishtail and bustle and an organza overlay. Each carried a smaller version of the bride’s bouquet. Best man was the bridegroom’s brother, Andrew
MacMillan, with attending groomsmen, Jamie Clarkson, Lee Cowking, Stuart Houlker and Christopher Nuttall. The bridegroom and his party ail wore “Spirit of Ban
nockburn” kilts. A reception was held at the Stirk House Hotel, in Gis-
burn, where piper, Doug Cameron played for the couples’ guests. He is the otficiai piper to “The Royal Order of Scotland”. The newlyweds, who are to live in Whalley, honey

Hospital smoking ban
SMOKING will be banned completely at all hospitals within the East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, including the hospital grounds. Members of the NHS
Trust’s board have voted to protect patients and staff by strengthening its no-smoking policy. There are currently
smoking restrictions across all the trust’s hos pitals, which include
Burnley General Hospi tal, Pendle Community Hospital, Rossendale Hospital, Queen’s Park Hospital and Blackburn Royal Infirmary. The group was set up
to review these arrange ments because it was recognised that different practices across the hos pitals were in place from the time when Burnley and Blackburn were two separate trusts.

widely used in Switzerland , - is eating its way. through the leftovers at the 400- year-old Three Fishes pub - cutting waste by a whop ping 80%. The system breaks up
food waste before squeez ing out the liquid content reducing its volume by up to 85%. Commenting on the
environment-friendly machine, co-owner of the business, Mr Craig Ban croft, said: “Waste dispos al is a reai issue in Switzer land. No-one wants to damage the pristine envi ronment. “There are also prob
lems of moving it around the mountaihs. But we need to be careful too. We wanted to minimise the problems of disposing of waste as well as doing our bit for the environment by reducing its volume. “This machine reduces
the equivalent of a sack of potatoes to the size of a tea cup, \yhich we can then easily remove. I t deals with everything from veg etables to chicken and lamb bones.” He added: “Ribble Val
ley is a beautiful rural place and when customers come to the pub, they do not want to smell rotten food. We serve food to around 300 to 400 cus tomers a day and thanks to the machine, there is absolutely no smell.. “The machine has very
good economic effects and I think a lot of businesses and schools could benefit from it.” The use of the machine
co-incides with World Environment Day (WED), which is com memorated each year on June 5th and is one of the principal vehicles through which the United Nations stimulates worldwide

Store plan withdrawn
CONTROVERSIAL plans for a new DIY store set to be built in Clitheroe have been withdrawn. However, it has been
confirmed that a revised planning application for the Homebase store at the Rectella site in Clitheroe will be submitted. Mr John Macholc,
building and development manager for Ribble Valley Borough Council said: “The application has been withdrawn by the appli cant in order to enter into discussions with the Plan ning and Development Comittee regarding the consultation response issues.” The decision by Citypark Projects Ltd to" withdraw the application for a 3,000 square metre shopping area and an addi tional 753 square metre garden centre at Queensway, next to .Sains- bury’s, was made after a retail impact assessment highlighted certaih issues that needed ammending. The proposed construc
tion of the DIY store has met TOTth opposition from members of Clitheroe s Chamber, of Trade.
