FOR 2 1 happy years the professional staff at Hair Company, a Premier Wella hair saion, have been making sure the people of Clitheroe and the RibbleValley have looked well-groomed and chic for a special occasion, for work and leisure or |ust for that feelgood factor. To celebrate this milestone in business the

staff at Hair Company would like to say a big thank-you to all their clientele for their con tinuous support over the years. It was 2 1 years ago when Louise Fearnley-

Brown opened the salon. Shortly afterwards she was joined by Angela Rainford, then an enthusiastic apprentice.Two-and-a-half years ago, together with Louise, Angela became )Oint owner and a director of the thriving business which they had built-up together. In all, the staff at the salon have accumulated 103 years of experience. Senior colourist and

stylist Amanda has been at the salon for 14 years. Another Amanda, also a senior, has been styling the clients’ hair for 17 years, while Tracey, who now works part-time, has been part of the team for many years. The |unior

COUNCIL employees took part in a Health Awareness Day, even though they have the best work attendance in

Lancashire. Ribble Valley Borough Council

workers took part in the event, the firs t of its kind, in the Clitheroe Council Chamber. Health experts were on hand

to check blood pressure and body mass index, and offer advice on nutrition and smoking cessation. Local health businesses and experts also displayed their wares

and services, including the Well- spring Clinic, Claire Fretwell Allergy Clinic, the Ribble Valley Country Club Gym, Kendal House Clinic and Alexander Technique practitioner Cather ine Carr. Ribble Valley Borough Council

personnel officer Nina Worrell said: “The popular television programme, ‘You Are What You Eat’, has put health at the fore front of the nation. “This was our first Health Awareness Day and it was a huge

success. “I would like to thank all the businesses that took part and our

employees for their enthusiastic participation.” Council workers in the Ribble

Valley have the best work atten dance of councils across Lan cashire, it was revealed last month. Ribble Valley Borough Council

loses an average of eight days per person per year to sickness, con siderably lower than other bor oughs in East Lancashire. Our picture shows Ribble Val

ley health and fitness consultant Tracy Balko running a health check on Christine Speak, typing centre supervisor at Ribble Val ley Borough Council, (s)

Clitheroe Advertiser & Times, October 28th, 2004 17 Helpers sought for poppy sale

FUND-RAISERS for the Royal British Legion are appealing for volunteers to sell poppies on the streets of Clitheroe on Saturday, November 13th. Organiser Mr Robert Scott

is appealing for anyone over 16 who has an hour to spare and would like to help to phone 01200 424055 or call in at the British Red Cross Cen tre, Back King Street, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on November 13th and ask for Mr Scott.

Farmers enjoy | a trip to forge

MEMBERS of Bolton-by- Bowland YFC enjoyed an interesting talk and demon stration at Rourke Forge. Next week, the club has

arranged a visit to Preston for 10-pin bowling and members should meet in the village at 6-45 p.m. On Friday night, mem

bers enjoyed their annual dinner-dance at the Calf’s Head Hotel, Worston. Thanks were expressed

by Mr Edward Thornber for the hospitality shown to the club. Members are reminded

that on Saturday night a 12-hour badminton session will be held, and those wish ing to attend should meet at the village hall with sponsorship forms at 6-45 p.m.

KTON Organisations that normal

ly receive a poppy wreath from the Clitheroe British Red Cross are asked to col lect them from the British Red Cross Centre between the above times on Novem ber 13th. Any organisation which

received a wreath last year already has an order made for this year. Last year’s collection total

for Clitheroe was £8,100, and Mr Scott paid tribute to the generosity of members of the

public. He also thanked vari ous organisations such as the Clitheroe British Red Cross, Clitheroe Ladies Circle, Inner Wheel and the Rotary Club of Clitheroe, which all supported the fund-raising effort. “Without the generosity of

the public and the help of these organisations, not for getting our local supermar kets Booth’s, Tesco and Sainsbury’s, the Poppy Appeal in Clitheroe would be impossible,” Mr Scott added.
