THE number of accidents in the UK caused by collisions with deer is con­ cerning the RAC Foundation.


Last year 10 motorists and passengers were


killed in such incidents and more than 250 were injured. The death and injury among the animals was much higher, with an esti­ mated 30,000 to 50,000 deer being killed or injured on our roads - and resulting in a t least £11 million worth of damaged caused to vehicles. A national project is currently underway


to determine a more accurate picture of the problem, to ascertain the key reasons for the accidents and to assess the effectiveness of various roadside defensive measures. Information is collected via a website


(www.deercollisions.co.uk) and the RAC Foundation is urging motorists involved in such incidents, or witnesses, to report the details on the website. In this way it hopes to build a comprehen­


sive database from which it can identify the true scope of the problem and the most effec­ tive ways to avoid such accidents in the future.

there was a lucrative market for those who cared more for a fancy badge, slick on road manners and a hefty complement of gadgetry, more and more manufacturers have hitched their wagons up to this trend. Nissan, however, is not one of them - at least not when it comes to its rugged Patrol. Now th a t so many rivals have
