Let’s beat the bogus callers
by Tracy Johnson
CUSTOMERS in the Ribble Valley are being urged by a national company to sign up to a scheme aimed at beating bogus callers.
United Utilities is calling on residents to
join its “password” scheme, in a new drive to beat the conman. The scheme, which is free to join and
open to all customers, will help them and the company to check if callers who visit households are genuine. Marian Johnson, from United Utilities’
Honeywell Estate Agents have expanded into Great Harwood by
acquiring the business of Peter Davies & Co, the town's leading estate agency, following Peter's retirement.
Bill Honeywell said "We saw this as an excellent opportunity to
expand our business and provide an improved service for clients, by becoming the only agents with offices in in the Ribble Valley as well as Great Harwood; covering a larger area means we have more
potential buyers for every property on our register. Already we have seen a big upturn in business clearly showing that this was the right thing to do."
Honeywell now have four offices Clitheroe, Whalley ond Great
Harwood, plus the recently-opened Residential Lettings office at 2-4 Parson Lane, Clitheroe and provide a full range of services for
buyers, sellers, landlords and tenants. Further details can be found on their web site at

customer care team, said the scheme is a simple, but effective way to prevent people being tricked by bogus callers, which can result in household burglaries. She added: “Bogus callers can be both
convincing and persuasive and it is very tempting to just trust the ‘official’ who knocks at the door. “The scheme is set up in advance and
allows customers to ask for the password to double check the callers are who they say they are.” For further information on how to regis
