If. 32 Clitheroe Advertiser & Times, October 28th, 2004 DISH OF THE WEEK
LEFT OVER SAUSAGE PASTA with Mrs Maureen Cowburn
THIS is a recipe idea for the busy person. When having sausages over the weekend, or any day, purchase more than you will need. Cook them all at the same time, put left
overs in the fridge for up to three days to use in this quick supper dish. Any variety of sausage will fit the bill perfectly. This week is British Sausage Apprecia
tion Week and we can look forward to another sizzling session of celebrations fea turing sausages. To celebrate British Sausage Week,
independent butchers across the country ivill be also be running events and creating mouthwatering new sausages for eus- ■ tomers to sample. ' . There will also be unmissable offers on' sausages from supermarkets and butchers, while pubs and restaurants will be joining
; in the festivities by running dedicated sausage menus.
; Clitheroe’s original famous sausage shop is Cowman’s on Castle Street, which has over 60 varieties of sausages available from sweet and sour pork with ta s ty pineapple to Atkins’ diet pork, Boerewors beef and a spicy Algerian favourite,

BUTCHERS around the Kibble Valley are hoping that British Sausage Week goes with a real
bang. A feast of meat celebrations
have been taking place across the area in support of the seventh annual Sausage Appreciation Week. Throughout this week at
Alpe’s the Butchers, customers have been treated to top tastings and recipe giveaways. And until tomorrow anyone
taking along a Clitheroe Adver tiser and Times coupon and mak ing a purchase came away with a free half pound of sausages. This is the first time the
award-winning Shawbridge Street shop has become involved with British Sausage Week. Among the eight varieties of
sausage Alpe’s sells are four medallists. In a recent competition organ
ised by BPEX and held at Bolton’s Reebok Stadium the shop’s sausages secured one gold and three silver medals. Taking top spot was the pork and leek
sausage, while Alpe’s traditional i pork, beef and Lincolnshire vari- i eties were all awarded silver medals. Their home-cured gam mon also gained a gold award. Mr George Alpe explained that all his bangers are home-made:
I
“We make them on the premises using fresh ingredients, locally
produced pork and natural sausage skins.” He added that among his cus* |
tomers the best known British banger of traditional pork is still the most popular. Other butchers have also been
hosting special events including j Clitheroe shop Cowman’s, the Original Famous Sausage Shop, in Castle Street, which makes and sells more than 60 different varieties, and Fairfield Farm in Longsight Road, Clayton-le- Dale.
At Cowman's, for every kilo of
sausages sold 20p is being donat ed to Cystic Fibrosis - see Dish of the Week opposite.
