Blacksmith’s horseshoe design turns heads!
HEADS are turning in Downham - and this time it has nothing to do with television cam
eras. Resident blacksmith
Steve Marshall has created
' a six-feet-high rearing iron horse. The sculpture has been
created entirely out of old horseshoes- 210 to be pre cise. Given the horseshoes by a
customer who wanted Mr Marshall to make a candle stick from them, he found himself with a surfeit and decided to create a horse. "I wanted a workpiece for the forge. l am trying to
. encourage people to buy sculpture pieces for their gardens and am currently
; working on'birds and ani mals. It seemed like a'good idea to do this, and it has already attracted a lot.of attention," he explained. The village blacksmith
for a number of years, he has already sold quite a few
. items to the production teams involved with the filming of "Bom and Bred". The forge is a focal point for
' visitors to the village and is ■ situated at one side of. the > ’'car park’.'ts)' ’ '
