Ewes and lambs at store sale
THE first of the season's ewes and lambs were on sale at Clitheroe Auction Mart during a special store
sale. Older Mule ewes with
twin lambs made to £35 per life (£105 per family). The store hoggs saw a
competitive trade and the novelty of a small flock of Jacob sheep drew plenty of attention, with shearlings to £55, a two shear to £54, gimmber lambs to £40 and a few older ewes to £38. Continental bulls on
green cards to £520, Conti nental steers on blue cards to £598, red cards to £555, Belgian Blue heifers to £470, Simmental heifers to £420, Friesian steers on red cards to £430 and plenty of demand for smaller cattle. A Belgian Blue cow and bull calf made to £585. The week's prime stock
sale saw more than 400 hoggs sold and fewer cattle than usual, but much improved averages in both areas. There were very few hoggs under £1 per kg and the best at 127p per kg or above their weight. Prices: Light hoggs to
32kg made to 118.5p per kg (average 112p), standard 32.5 to 39kgs to 127p (118p), medium hoggs 39.1 to 45.5kgs to 126p (114.5p), heavies 46kgs- plus to 103p (97p), cast ewes to £38 (£30.50), rams to £22, premium bulls to 118pperkg(115p). There was a large entry

Plenty of buyers chasing homes
ONLY a quick glance at our ' property advertisements serves to confirm that the lat est national survey applies locally as well. . Virtually everywhere, it
seems, numerous buyers still chase every home on the market! The National Association
of Estate Agents is naturally enough keen to emphasise survey points which support its business and there is a cracker this time. Nationally, 44% of sales were to first time buyers! “This figure is highly sig
nificant, as strong activity at the lower end provides impe tus for the market as a whole,” says the association. “I t is a highly encouraging sign and a figure we will be watching over the next cou ple of months.” The surprise cut in interest
rates several weeks ago, how ever small statistically, gave a welcome bonus to the house market. I t encouraged those who had been hesitant. Buying a home is still a
good investment, say the agents. B THERE is no end to the
information folk can collect up nowadays and sell on. A database has been
established to provide a “one stop” source of information for homebuyers - or anyone else - keen to find out if a tree is in fact a mobile telephone aerial or if a motorway is planned for a particular front garden. The researchers have also collected up details, for

WHAT IS A BUY TO LET MORTGAGE - YOU MAY ASK?
Back in 1 9 9 6 there was a shortage of rental property. A group of lenders, backed by the Association of .
Residential Letting Agents, began to offer
mortgages.to people who wanted to buy properties and let them out. Since then, the market has grown enormously. As working patterns change, and people become more mobile, there is greater demand for; rented property and short-term lets.
