Ralph McCarthy opened the Main Street hostelry for business last week, despite a last-minute hitch caused by a day-long power cut. Before moving to the Valley


village, Miss Bache gained her cooking qualifications at Nelson and Colne College, and then went on’to s tu d y a t Salford. Tech. In the past, she has worked for the Sodexho, one of


•the country’s largest catering and support services companies. Originally from the south, Mr McCarthy, who served with the Royal Scots, is a trained HGV driver. The couple both decided they


wanted to have a change of career and have now taken over the tenancy at the Gisbum pub. Said Miss Bache: “We always wanted to have our own business in a pub and to keep living in an area we knew, so the White Bull, being an established pub, was


the ideal kind of location for us.” The couple will celebrate their
