BLACKBURN College is the largest provider of higher education in East Lancashire. It offers a wide

We pride our­ selves on having a wide range of programmes at many levels so there is something for everyone. We are also committed to pushing for the highest standards in the education and training we provide,


to give our students the best chance of success. Year on year, our results have improved, our


achievement rate this year for A level reached 96%, well above the national average of 89%. Our voca­ tional courses achieved an overall pass rate of 95% again, well above the national average of 73%.


There are 1,100 young people aged 16-18 who. study with us on fidl-time programmes, with a fur­


ther 250 young people on work-based training. We pride ourselves on our.extensive support ser­


vice for students, we go to great lengths to work closely with parents and to keep them informed of progress. Parents are invited to visit the college and to attend an interview ..with their son or daughter; they are given written reports twice a yean they are invited to a progress report evening every year; and they are provided with the details of their son or daughter’s course tutor to contact whenever they haveaconcem.

IT would be impossible to list arid describe all of the work and activities undertaken by a local council - they vary according to a number of factors includ­ ing type of organisations, location and structure. . There are opportunities for people of all ages.


School leavers can begin work with relevant GCSEs or Scottish Standard Grades and train as they go, often taking Modem Apprenticeships, while others enter local government after taking A-levels or Scot­ tish Higher Grades. Many enter after graduating from university and
