mination of this area is greater than anywhere

else in the village, main roads included. What are lights needed'for? The playing fields are not used in the dark. The present car park

ing area has only two or three cars on it at the most, unless there is a football or cricket match. So the proposal is a complete waste o f our

money. The mention of this scheme at the annual

meeting of Waddington Parish Council was unanimously opposed, with only the chairman in favour. There is considerable

doubt as to the legality of the car park. The field was left in trust for the use of the village chil dren and youths. Also, if the plans go

ahead, there will be no path from the entrance to the playground area, children will have to cross the car park with the obvious danger - if the car park is full, dur ing a football match, for instance. So, a complete waste

of our money!

Is our local

line safe? IN the aftermath of the recent train disasters, is there another one wait ing to happen in the Clitheroe area? The diversion of the

high-speed trains at the weekends from Carlisle at the beginning of the year was worrying to me

Has the track been

maintained to the required standards for

this sort of speed? I u n d e r s ta n d th e

trains were supposed to go slower through this area. Did they? Comments please

|e Thanks for

assistance HAVING recently lost my wife, I decided to put a memorial seat near the River Ribble at the side of the Ribble Way where we used to walk on fre quent occasions. The selected site

proved to be on land owned b y _ JCAstle Cement. I would like to publicly thank it for the advice and assistance I was given over the installation of the seat, particularly in view of the adverse comments from people it some times receives in your paper.
