Volvo’s new large estate THIS is the first picture of Volvo’s all-

new large estate, due to go on sale

during February. The new car will take the V70 tag, although it is substantially based on the successful S80 saloon with which it shares safety advancements and running gear. Volvo says the new model is designed to enhance its dominance of the premium

, large estate sector. In the UK, Volvo cur rently takes more than a third of the mar

ket and in Europe it outsells its nearest rival, Mercedes, by two to one. New V70 will sell for a time alongside

the existing V70, which is bound to tax a few minds in dealerships up and down the country. But it will eventually replace the

current model. Launched initially with a range of five

cylinder, turbocharged engines, th e flag ship is th e T-5 performance model with a 250 b.h.p. powerplant.

any other Japanese make. Nosurprise then that

Daihatsu is planning to unleash yet more compact cars. The company has issued details of two pro duction-ready models and

road holding and perfor mance says the manufac turer. One of the concept cars

that is being considered for Europe is the Kopen, a two seater sportster with an electrically-operated hard top. It is small, naturally, and light enough to be powered by a 660cc tur bocharged engine which develops a modest 64 b.h.p.
