Farmers’ Club entered into the spirit of midsummer mad
ness when members took part in a scavenger hunt. They were transported to
different locations round the village and then dropped off in small groups. Each group had to collect different items and return in the fastest time to the village without being
seen. The team led by I\ Pope
proved too good for the oppo sition and were followed in by the team led by A. Howard and S. Hanson and company. Peter Dakin was thanked
for the use of the wagon and Val Pickard for keeping a tally of the point scoring. The next meeting is the
ACM in the village hall on September 7th, stalling at 7-
45 p.m.

“Conservation in the nibble V a l le y ,” to Sabdcn WI s meeting. It was very informa tive ami members were sur prised at the different depart ments which dealt with all aspects of conservation. He said that the Country
side Commission also put a lot of money into the Kibble Val
ley, about 8-Ip per inhabitant
each year. There is an active volunteer section, which includes townspeople who like
to work in the countryside at weekends and during their holidays and foreign students. After the talk, Mrs .1. Har
rison gave details of the trip to Durham. Volunteers were wanted to man the stall at the street market in September and to supplv food for the stall. Names were drawn to take part in a quiz night at Hnpton WI. Birthdav flowers were pre

colours of the floral arrange ments will he echoed in the patterns, tones and textures o f beautiful hand-crafted quilts, many of which have been made'by local ladies at creative sewing and quilting classes in the area. This will he a delightful

Mrs Holgate was so wor ried the (log might eat the eyes on her toys that she made a safe one as a sur- I prise while the lady was having lunch. When she returned, the dog just stood in front of her sew ing machine as though he knew the specially-sewn mouse was for him. The exhibition, which
runs from Bank Holiday Monday until next Sun day, is open from 11-80 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission to the hull is £2 fiir adults | and 80() for children.

at Brogden, going past the old hall and on to Bra- eewell Lane. After a short
re st at the lodge, the group returned to Gishurn by Walter Hill plantation. Extensive views were
enjoyed, with Pcn-y-ghcnt and ’ I ngleborough clearly visible. A count of GO flow ers was noted and Mrs Connie Bishop thanked the leader for saving the day. The next outing will be
to Leathley on September 4th, departing at 10 a.m. The leaders will he Brenda | and Lorraine Wilkinson.

Wealth of talent When the speaker failed to
turn up to Chipping W Is August meetjng, resourceful
members did not panic. Instead they called on the
wealth of talent within the WI, asking several members
to talk about their crafts. Th e fa s c in a t in g talk s
as rug making, flower arnmg- ing and smocking. The 08 ladies listened enthralled as Mrs Rita Joyce, of Tweedy s Court, Chipping, told them about the garments she makes from the hair of her two collie
dogs. Mrs Joyce took a course m
spinning seven years ago and had the unusual idea of using
the hair from the family dogs to spin and knit into clothes. She explained how she mixed the hair with wool, as oth erwise the clothing would be too hot to wear. Members were given a chance to handle Mrs Joyce’s handiwork — to see for themselves what the hair of the dog can do! The vote of thanks for the
impromptu talks was given by Wl president Mrs Fazacker- ley. 'Pea and cakes were then served by hostesses Mrs J. Seed, Mrs M. Cliffe and Mrs I*. Gifford.
