BRIDGE IMPROVERS (ST PAUL’S CHURCH HALL, MONDAY 2 p.m.) A very basic knowledge of bridge, not necessarily ACOL.


Students will learn more detailed knowledge of the ACOL bidding system plus extra skills in playing hands in order to play bridge at home or join a club. Students will be provided with explanatory handouts.


CAR MAINTENANCE (RIBBLESDALE, MONDAY 7-15 p.m.)


BASIC CAR MAINTENANCE FOR WOMEN

LOCAL HISTORY OF CLITHEROE (RIBBLESDALE THURSDAY 7 .1 5 p.m., 8 wee ks)


The course is about the origins of Clitheroe and its growth over the centuries.


We shall look at the following areas: 1. The arrival and effect of the Romans, Saxons and Vikings on the area.


2. The effect of the Norman Conquest and the development of Clitheroe as a market town.


3. The making of modern Clitheroe through the Victorians to the present day.

LIPREADING FOR THE HARD OF HEARING (TR IN ITY YOUTH CENTRE, THURSDAY 1-45 p.m.) No previous knowledge necessary to benefit from this course.


This course will help to develop the best of residual hearing. How the ear works and different forms of deafness will be explained. Students will learn the basics of lipreading and develop the ability to be aware of visual clues.


COUNTRYSIDE ON YOUR DOORSTEP (RIBBLESDALE WEDNESDAY 7 .1 5 pm)


An opportunity to learn how to make the most of your playing: Learning and playing practically in small group situations and also solo playing: No musical skills are needed, the only essen­ tial being ‘one keyboard’!« All the emphasis will be on playing and creating a good musical sound: Adequate demonstrations will be given covering all aspects of keyboard music.


AROMATHERAPY


(RIBBLESDALE TUESDAY 7 .1 5 pm) An introduction to aromatherapy and simple massage niques. Looks at the theraputic properties and uses of essential oils' and develops massage skills.


FOR FURTHER 1 Look at the least noticeable and more unusual aspects of wildlife


around you - from galls to grasses - bats to newts. Many specimens will be provided for you to examine and identify. A local walk and slide show will provide a closer look at the hidden world on your doorstep.


HORSE MANAGEMENT (READWOOD STABLES TUESDAY 7 pm)


A course in horse and stable management for people wishing to'' increase their knowledge of the welfare of their horse. The new BHS horse owners certificate exam may be taken.


WILDLIFE (WHALLEY WEDNESDAY 1 pm)


This course gives you the practical and technical information to enable you to create a wildlife garden. From simply making and siting a nest box to planning a complete garden regardless of size.
