Pans by storm as it launches its range of designer boys’ wear on to the catwalks of the w o r l d ’ s f a s h i o n
capital. BHR Clothing, o f Mill
Lane, will be taking its “Speed of Light” brand of classic and casual boys’ wear to the French capital in September to partici pate in the th re e -d a y “Mode Enfantine” exhibi tion. Retailers from all over the world will see the clothing — and owners Brian and Janet Ross hope that the show will put their company at the fore front o f the boys’ wear m a rk e t at home and abroad. The Rural Development
Commission — which actively encourages busi n e s s e s b as ed in th e English countryside — has given the company a grant towards the cost of going to the Paris show. A l l the c lo th e s are
designed by Mr Ross, fol lowing careful research into the current fashion trends. He describes the range as “attractive, high
by Catherine Needham qu ality casualwear for
boys, distinctive for its co ordination and colour con tent.” He said : “ A lo t o f
clothes on the market are very basic. We put a lot into the garments to make them unique, with a num ber of special features on each item.” The company produces a
spring/summer range and an autumn/winter range e v e ry year , with each range containing three “stories” — a co-ordination of garments — on a partic- u la r th em e . R e c e n t themes have included "Save the Whale” and the Olympics. The company was only
set up three years ago, making it a recession suc cess story. Its co-ordinat ing range of classic trou sers, shirts and waistcoats and stylish but functional shorts and sweatshirts — for two to 14-year-olds — have clearly captured the imagination o f mothers and boys everywhere. BHR Clothing supple
ments its f lou r ish in g domestic market with
exports to places as apart as Ireland, Hong Kong and Iceland. Its rural location Is as
unique a feature as the clothes themselves, but Mr Ross is convinced that being in Gisburn has not presented the company with any problems. He said: “ I t is v e ry
pleasant to work in a rural environment and we have not encountered any real d is a d v a n ta g e s . F a x machines and a good motorway network mean we can function just as effectively from here as from anywhere else.” BHR Clothing’s over
whelming success in an unfavourable economic cli mate has been no surprise to the Rosses. Mrs Ross explained:
“ The product has to be right for the marketplace and “ Speed o f L ig h t ” obviously is. We are spe cialists in what we do, pro ducing the total co-ordin ated boys’ wear look. Our clothes are commercially acceptable and competiti vely priced.” Her husband continued:

TH E R E is something a little hit fishy about the next Sham Mayor of Wor ston — in the nicest possi ble way, of course. A noble character, he
