THE BAR The Red Room designed by Bryan O’Sullivan is a speakeasy hidden within
The Connaught hotel. Inspired by a series of Louise Bourgeois pieces, the bar feels like the living room of an art collector. To get the relaxed look introduce soft curves with the ‘Routin’ pouf from Ethimo and a pink ‘Virgule’ sofa by Christophe Delcourt for Pierre Frey. More plush comfort is achieved with the retro 1950s-style ‘Turin’ chair by Julian Chichester and the ‘Fusion’ carpet from Wool Classics. Bulbous and irregular, the red ‘Zelda’ glass lamp brings whimsical flair, echoing the custom plaster shelving. The ‘Mini Glass Drum’ table lamp by Collier Webb adds exquisite detailing.
DRAWING ROOM Philip Hooper’s architectural background and his style – modern, yet respectful of the history of
a building – made him the ideal decorator for this London house. To get the look, choose eclectic pieces from varying cultures and periods such as Paolo Moschino Ltd’s ‘Antique French late 18th Century Chinoiserie’ secretaire. The ‘Barresa Damask’ fabric by Schumacher on the comfortable sofa contrasts with the bold ‘Sailing Stripes’ flatweave carpet from Jennifer Manners Design and the ‘Arlo’ fabrics in grass green and red by Jane Churchill at Colefax and Fowler on the cushions. The ‘Elder’ chest of drawers in walnut from Oficina Inglesa Furniture adds depth, while the ‘Blume’ vases from Arteriors and Vaughan’s ‘Carcassonne’ floor lamp introduce an organic element.
