Company insight

Amcor’s AmPrima innovations can be applied to almost every type of existing packaging.

“External lab testing and reviews from the Association of Plastic Recyclers and the How2Recycle organisation have confirmed the recyclability of our AmPrima substrate, which, in turn, allows our customers to make consumer-facing on-pack recyclability claims.”

Sustainability for the many Peyer calls AmPrima “recycle-ready”, and exalts how there will be “no compromise on performance, which is such an incredibly important benefit for our customers. Sustainability is something they want to reach, but they don’t want to jeopardise the operational or efficiency goals they have set in place. “We can give customers something that is recycle-ready, runs exactly the same speed, looks and feels exactly like their current packaging, and retains the same properties, such as barrier and shelf life, that the customer expects.”

This is a big deal. Historically, the conversation on sustainability has been one of compromise. If a customer wants to be more green or sustainable, they must accept that something has to give: performance, cost, speed or shelf life.

That compromise may be worth it for the end goal to be achieved, but sacrifice was, nonetheless, required.

The end of compromise? To be genuinely able to replace the packaging without having to make this compromise or sacrifice is quite an achievement.

products – including packaging – so that’s an additional value that we bring. We can calculate those emission reductions using ASSET, Amcor’s life-cycle assessment tool that is externally certified by the Carbon Trust [in the UK]. This quantifies the value we bring from a sustainability perspective to the customers’ packaging, by swapping AmPrima into their existing lines.”

“AmPrima helps brands meet their packaging sustainability goals and consumer expectations without jeopardising their efficiency and operational targets.”

“Results from our LCA [life-cycle analysis] work has shown that AmPrima reduces the carbon footprint of a package through a combination of benefits associated with its material composition and recyclability,” Peyer continues. “This is a benefit that some of our customers are really interested in because they have climate change-related goals. Retailers in the US are really vocal about this, as well as the need for the supply chain to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions of

“AmPrima helps brands meet their packaging sustainability goals and consumer expectations without jeopardising their efficiency and operational targets. More broadly, it shows the willingness of the flexible packaging industry to bring innovative solutions to the market and be part of the solution when it comes to creating a circular economy for flexible packaging.” ●
