There are many different prerequisites when designing ship doors, but the most vital of them is safety. Within operational and technical safety factors, fire safety is considered the most important. All doors manufactured by Antti are tested according to the IMO’s fire test procedure code protocol. Antti doors are also certified in accordance with marine equipment directive modules.


Cruise ships are expansive vessels that must be able to carry a large amount of passengers and crew in accommodation areas. In addition to safety, accommodation must offer comfortable facilities to allow for rest and recovery. When it comes to comfort, good quality door insulation and sealings are needed to provide a truly personal experience. This is why Antti doors are tested for soundproofing according to International Standards Organisation sound reduction criteria, to ensure they meet the proper requirements, as well as the desires of the comfort class. With Project Rheingold, Den Breejen Shipyard is serving the market by building a luxury river cruise ship on specification, based on an optimised platform, with a carefully considered and fully customisable design. The short delivery time of this project offers cruising companies a rare opportunity to quickly expand their fleet when the cruising business picks up.


Project Rheingold is a 135m, 182-passenger, four-star luxury river cruise ship, engineered and built by the renowned craftsmen of Den Breejen Shipyard. Having delivered over 40 custom-built vessels, it is the first on-spec project for the shipyard, and very likely to be an industry first.


Den Breejen Shipyard teamed up with specialists from Omega Architects, and it shows. The extraordinary exterior lines of Project Rheingold are a brave new interpretation of the traditional river cruise ship design. The profile of the vessel is one straight line, integrating the hotel area with the restaurant, giving her a sleek and well-balanced appearance. The interior of Project Rheingold impresses with her contemporary chic ambiance, drawing inspiration from the latest and greatest in modern architecture. The hidden

Customisable to individual requirements, the CS-MBR treatment process is divided into three key stages: ■ Mechanical pre-treatment: solids are removed from all incoming wastewater, with an option to include grease separation.


■ High-performance activated sludge biological treatment: controlled by an intelligent aeration design, bacteria remove organic pollutants, nitrogen and phosphorus from the wastewater. Excess phosphorus can be removed from effluent using additional coagulant.

Its newest wastewater treatment system combines unique filtration technology with an eco-friendly edge. Type-approved in accordance with IMO MEPC.227(64) including chapter 4.2 that details nitrogen and phosphorus removal within special areas, RWO’s CleanSewage Membrane Bioreactor (CS-MBR) provides next-generation advanced wastewater treatment systems (AWTS) technology for ships. It is the natural successor to RWO’s renowned MEMROD- Series sewage treatment plant. The CS-MBR is a sustainable biological treatment technology designed specifically to minimise a vessel’s impact on the environment, so that shipowners exceed regulatory


■ Submersed ultrafiltration (UF): clean water is separated from the activated sludge using a submerged membrane that is unique to RWO. The membrane not only enhances water purity by removing 99% of solids, including microplastics and viruses, but uses less energy and allows for a compact design.


Following the CS-MBR treatment process, water is free of solids, disinfected, clear and pure enough to be reused in other functions such as laundry and technical water. Reliable, efficient and sustainable, the CS-MBR also includes automated backwashing to clean the membranes, making it easier to operate than competing systems and reducing downtime and maintenance requirements. It also uses fewer chemicals during treatment; it does not need to use chlorination to remove bacteria and viruses, or flocculants or any other chemicals for disinfection.
