Princess Cruises announces South America and Antarctica programme
From the origin of the tango to the home of coffee and the rugged landscape of the most isolated continent on earth, Princess Cruises announced its diverse programme of offerings for its 2023–24 South America and Antarctica season. On sale from 6 April 2022, Sapphire Princess returns to this exotic region to visit 19 destinations in ten countries, on five unique itineraries.
With ten departures, ranging in length from 14 to 34 days, Sapphire Princess cruises offer guests the experience of sailing to Cape Horn – where the Pacific meets the Atlantic – to the Chilean Fjords, the stunning mountains of Patagonia, the Falkland Islands’ famous penguins and the mystic waters of remote Antarctica.
Carnival ships arrive at Cayman Islands in post-Covid-19 first
As part of Carnival Cruise Line’s successful return to guest operations, Carnival Paradise and Carnival Sunrise arrived at Grand Cayman of the Cayman Islands, marking the line’s first time back to the port since resuming service, and the first Carnival ships to visit the port since it re-opened. Having arrived on 24 March, Carnival Glory will be the third Carnival ship to call on the port. “We are delighted to return to Grand Cayman and to offer guests an
opportunity to experience all of this port’s beauty once again,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. “On behalf of Carnival, I would like to personally thank all our partners in Grand Cayman for working with us to make this opportunity possible.”
Carnival will have its entire fleet back in service by this summer, completing an impressive and successful restart of its guest operations and setting the pace for the rest of the US cruise industry.
Norwegian Cruise Line unveils details of new culinary offerings
Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) revealed details of its elevated culinary and beverage offerings for its highly anticipated new Prima Class vessels: Norwegian Prima and Norwegian Viva.
The two ships will debut nine new dining and beverage venues. The cruise line also announced food and beverage updates, including the launch of its revamped main dining menu set to roll out on Norwegian Prima, as well as an enhancement to NCL guest’s favourite culinary staples. “We’ve been innovators in the food and beverage space for more than three decades, becoming the first cruise line to offer

specialty dining and the first to introduce our freestyle cruising concept that allows our guests to vacation their way by giving them the choice to decide when and where they dine,” said Harry Sommer, Norwegian Cruise Line president and CEO. “Our latest food and beverage offerings take our Norwegian Prima food and beverage experience to another level, one that travels well beyond the guest expectation to provide elevated gastronomical experiences featuring sophisticated design, masterful mixology and cuisine that delivers full-throttle flavour,” he added.
Virgin’s first cruise
ship terminal opens Virgin Voyages, Richard Branson’s new cruise line, celebrated the long- awaited grand opening of Terminal V at PortMiami yesterday. The opening of Virgin Voyages’ own cruise terminal represents a major milestone in the brand’s history and the first time Scarlet Lady sailed from her new home. “Coming to this beautiful new terminal and seeing Scarlet Lady in her home port here in Miami has been such an incredible experience. The team at Virgin Voyages has created a stunning building that delivers on our commitment to being better stewards of the earth with its LEED Gold Certification,” said Sir Richard Branson, founder of the Virgin Group. Passengers who have booked suite accommodations will gain access to Terminal V’s VIP entrance, expedited security screening and an exclusive pre-boarding lounge. The new cruise terminal also features a special Crew- only lounge where Virgin Voyages’ team can unwind, further demonstrating the brand’s commitment to creating the best gig ever for its employees. Scarlet Lady, Virgin Voyages’ first ship and the winner of Cruise Critic’s Best New Cruise Ship for 2021 Award, will call Terminal V her home year- round while Valiant Lady will join in the winter of 2022. Both ships will sail on a mix of multi-night itineraries to locations in the Caribbean.
ABP utilises first UK
shore power facility The UK’s first shore power facility for cruise ships will be utilised at Associated British Ports (ABP) Southampton this year, while maiden calls are scheduled at ABP Cruise ports throughout the year. “ABP Cruise’s ports and destinations offer something for everyone and bring economic value across the UK, so we are thrilled to see such a comprehensive programme for 2022,” said Rebekah Keeler, head of cruise, Associated British Ports. “ABP continues to invest in its cruise infrastructure, including Southampton’s shore power, LNG bunkering, solar energy, new Horizon Cruise Terminal and air bridges.”
Southampton will see both its shore power facility commissioned and seven cruise ships make their maiden calls at the port this year.
