Building on a decade of ship repair success
Navantia builds ships with a high-technological content for the Spanish navy among others, as well as a selection of civil sectors, and has been doing so at Cadiz Bay for ten years. Its activity focuses on three areas: shipbuilding and ship repairs, systems and services and green energy, where it is an international benchmark in offshore wind energy. After providing the sector with a stable service in the wake of Covid-19, it is looking forward to assisting more clients with its expertise.
T
en years after the arrival and docking of the first cruise ship into the docks of Navantia in Cadiz Bay, the company has reaffirmed its commitment to this specialised line of business. It also has expressed its determination to increase both the contracts for cruise dockings and the scope of the cruise refit projects. This sense of drive comes after 2021 was a record year for cruise ship repairs in the Bay, with a total of 18 units repaired.
Celebrating brilliance To celebrate the decade, Navantia has made a photographic exhibition to portray the value and magnitude of the ship repair activity in the province of Cadiz, which sees large cruise ships within the shipyard’s facilities on a daily basis and is noticeable in the economy of the whole province. This exhibition recalls these ten years, in which a total of 86 cruise ships have been repaired or maintained at Navantia’s shipyard for 20 different shipowners, most of them key references in the sector, such as Royal Caribbean International, Carnival Corporation and Disney Cruise Line. Some of the vessels repaired in Cadiz Bay over recent years are renowned cruise vessels including Oasis of the Seas, Freedom of the Seas, Carnival Sunrise, Carnival Radiance, or Disney Magic and Disney Wonder.

As usual, the different projects undertaken at the Cadiz Bay yards included managing the logistical requirements of the projects, such as the organisation of unloading areas, warehouses and storage, disposal of scrap material and the handling of a huge volume of supplies, spares and materials provided by the clients.
