SPONSOR | TIMBER GARDEN PRODUCT SUPPLIER OF THE YEAR

ECC Timber Products E

CC Timber Products has supplied quality construction, fencing, pallet, and packaging timber products to the Irish and UK markets since it was established by PJ Fahy

in 1992. Its portfolio of products includes Irish-grown

construction timber products (C16 Eased Edge); a comprehensive fencing timber range, available in green or brown; UC4-treated and incised decking joists, posts, and sleepers which come with a 15-year warranty; pallet and packaging products; and IS435 certified motorway posts and rails. Services include the supply of mixed loads and

pick-a-pack; multi-drop delivery; and pressure treatment (green and brown) is available on all products, all supplied from one 22-acre location. “We are extremely proud of our brand and quality of product which has further enhanced our positioning in the home-grown sector,” said Martin Oxley, head of UK sales. “Service and quality is fundamental which having full control from our single site sawmill enables our customers to order multiple products of both construction and fencing timber all on the one delivery. The flexibility of operating from one site gives us a unique advantage.” Production output has been on a steady upward

trajectory during the last three decades, punctuated by investment programmes designed to enable the mill to increase volumes, improve efficiencies, and add value and new products to its range. The capital expenditure programme has seen ECC

invest more than €95m since 1992, enabling it to increase its production volume from 18,000m³ in its first year of operation to 600,000m³ this year.

ECC has now completed a recent €32m investment

programme, the highlights of which included a new high-speed HOLTEC log handling and grading system, which has increased grading capacity by 50% and improved the mill’s throughput and yields. A 9MW Kara biomass boiler complements six new high speed BES Bollman kilns to improve the speed of the lifecycle of the timber, which has also seen benefit of two new Stavelse pressure treatment plants, which has doubled ECC’s treatment capacity. A state-of-the-art automated sawshop has taken precision to the next level for all sawblades on-site. A focus on quality is integral, demonstrated by increasing storage space with 15,000m² of additional shed storage, facilitating the internal loading of trucks, plus an additional 30,000m² of storage yard space. A new Hyundai forklift fleet and log handling machines from both Liebherr and Sennebogen have added to the commitment to quality and standards on-site. More recent investments include the installation of a Willems shaving and baling plant and two AV Birch machines to produce V-Notch posts and scarfed arris rail.

“It has been an exciting 33 years at ECC, and we are just as excited for the next 33!” said Nigel Fahy, director of sales, adding that this most recent capex programme has enabled ECC to ramp up output from just over 450,000m³ per year in 2020 to the projected over 600,000m³ this year. ■
